2020 Wedding cancelled & gained weight. Can't fit into Dress!

Kristine, on July 3, 2021 at 7:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

My wedding was April 2020 and I had lost 30 lbs up until March. Got the wedding dress taken in.. and only thing left was to get it altered to my height. Of course that's when everything got cancelled. After pushing the wedding 3 times.. finally it's happening early Sept 2021. BUT I GAINED ALL THE WEIGHT BACK!

I can't fit into my dress and actually regretted buying that one right away. I've always regretted this dress regardless of my being able to fit into it or not.

Back: Lower than I feel comfortable

V neck with thin gem straps. Uncomfortable with my arms.

I DON'T know what to do.. I've asked the seamstress about adding coverage but she says it's really not possible because of the type of top.

Anyone know a really go reasonable priced seamstress in OC/LA area?

It's sad.. but I'm just over the wedding thing.. we got legally married in April 2020.

The good news is - you didn’t love the dress in the first place! Can you just scrap it all together and find something inexpensive on ASOS or Lulus? Sorry you’re going through this. Could be easier to spend the $ you would on alterations on a new dress completely. Good luck!

You can add sleeves and get the back turned into a corset. There are also a bunch of lacy boleros on Etsy

I had to change my zipper back to a corset to get more dress room. Good luck!

I agree with Cool. Since you didn't love it to begin with - and alterations will likely be cost prohibitive, I would scratch it all and start again. Since you're already legally married, you can match the dress to the style of your upcoming reception/celebration of marriage. There are a lot of websites that people here recommend to buy dresses.

A Stitch In Time in Brentwood, LA is wonderful, Olivia did all my alterations and is highly competent. Might be slightly on the more expensive side due to the area, but it was worth it as alterations were one thing I was NOT stressed about - I totally trusted her to get everything right. Plus she was recommended to me by the bridal consultant who helped me find my dress - that consultant had gone to her for her own wedding dress alterations too!

When I saw her a couple weeks ago though, she did say she's super busy with all the Covid brides, so if you want to go to her I'd call asap to try and get an appointment. She's started to have to turn people away as she's so busy Smiley sad
