2020 Bride w/no Dress

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is staying safe during this difficult time. I’m newly engaged and with everything locked down I don’t see bridal shops opening until summer. With my wedding being 10/4/20 I’m worried I won’t find anything I like in time. Has anyone ordered dresses to try on at home?

Wow that’s a big difference. Why do you think there’s such a difference?

I got my dress off of StillWhite (it's a site for pre-owned wedding dresses). I was able to find something that fit me nearly perfectly without alterations and get it in a matter of weeks instead of months. StillWhite, PreownedWeddingDresses.com, OnceWed, and Poshmark are all good websites for previously owned dresses.

Depending on what sort of dress you are looking for you should also look at websites like BHLDN, Lulu's, or ASOS. They have a variety of dresses and you can order by mail. With Lulu's you have free returns, so you can try them on and return them at no cost if you don't like them. I think the others do too, but I'm not sure, so just check the terms before you order.

I actually ordered a dress I fell in love with (like my DREAM dress! everything from vneck, bellsleeves, lace, everything i wanted!) online (lulus.com) that was remarkably affordable (less than $142!!) and I almost cried when I tried it on and had my mom over to zip me up... it fit like a GLOVE!!! Even my mom was shook that it was so perfect and ordered offline haha! I would say read comments on sites that people leave about how it fits, that's definitely how I choose the proper size. And make sure you check that you can return if it doesn't fit properly! Best of luck !Smiley heart

If you want to have the experience of shopping in person, I'd go to a small store that will allow you to try on samples. I wasn't going to be able to have a dress shipped to me in time due to COVID delays and I found a great store (Paisley Bridal if any of you are in the NYC area) that let me try on any sample I wanted. Call ahead since not every store will allow you to do that. Good luck!

Some dress shops may still be booking appts for when they open again. I would try e-mailing or calling some and find out. At this point you would have to check with each shop to verify their ordering guidelines to see if you still have time. Some shops have buy off the rack dresses that need minimal alterations if you wound be open to that.

I haven’t tried online yet I don’t want the hassle of buying and returning. My wedding is 9/19/20 and I’m hoping all the prom dresses left on the racks and leftover sample dresses will be a nice price come June and my alterations won’t be much. I was a little worried about dress availability but there are a lot of used or rentals near me if I can’t find one on the rack. And prom dresses are very unique to me.
