2020 Bride w/no Dress

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is staying safe during this difficult time. I’m newly engaged and with everything locked down I don’t see bridal shops opening until summer. With my wedding being 10/4/20 I’m worried I won’t find anything I like in time. Has anyone ordered dresses to try on at home?

Thank you same to you 😊. Check the other sites I put as well in case you didn’t find anything on Ali. Coco Melody is legit too that was my 2nd option.

I think the stores will definitely be busy once things start to get back normal. I went and found a measuring tape to determine my measurements today. Hopefully I’m not too far off on the measurements

I was on cocomelody website earlier and saw a few. They even do custom alterations to their dresses. I emailed them with questions on one particular dress so I’m just waiting to hear back.

They usually say your bridal size is at least two sizes up from your street clothes size. Other options would be to see what bridal shops around you sell off the rack items. Budget friendly and you tend to walk away with it that day - just have to see if you can find something close to your size that you’ll love. Also will depend on what kind of dress you get. I ordered one that’s Lillian West and was a common one that I was able to get mine in about 2 months and then it took about 5 weeks for alterations

Two in our area advertise this. For those who may not know this, if you look at a designer website, say Maggie Sottero, whose dresses are never sold online, only stores, or real stores with a website. In there is a retailer list, and you look up stores in your area that carry their dresses. Then you look at Sophia Tolli, a Mon Cheri designer, look up stores. So you deal with stores you know carry the lines of dresses you want. With your wish list, and your measurements, then contact stores. Different makers use different size charts, so let them know actual measurements. You may get a size 8 from one line and a 10-12 on another. Also, though production of some dresses may be slow in some countries now, there are lines with months worth of sales in American distributor warehouses. And the reality always was, that though shops push you to buy 10-15 months out, to get it on time. In reality, they let people order up to 4 months or 5 months out for most dresses. And simply go by your wedding date, shipping yours to arrive 4-6 weeks before your wedding date Sept 15, when someone who ordered months ago, with a December wedding date, will not receive their dress til mid-October. They use that great number who do order early to ease production and distributor rushes at busy times. So always, you have been able to order some " order 9 months in advance" styles a lot longer. My 2 of my sister's and I had 5 (me) , 4.5, and 6 month engagements. Ordered Maggie Sottero, and 2 other designers with order early timelines. And ordering at 4-5 months, got our dresses 4-6 weeks before the wedding. Working in the industry, once , we knew orders in most designers are not filled first come first served. But according to when is the wedding. While stores like David's mostly ship in shorter timelines, and Azazie make to fit always have shorter timelines. So do not panic, my wedding is in 9-10 months, it will take 3 months just to order , picking up and dropping off dresses . You don't have to settle for the first dress you can get. Though production may be slow, shops are not serving many people, and warehouses of gowns waiting to be sold for weddings 4-10 months from now, are out there. Super popular dresses, may run out. Most, no. I know people who wanted my dress, went to shops at 10 months and we're told, you have to order by 8 months. Couldn't afford it then. So at 7 months when they had the money, they never went back, figuring it was too late. Not realizing that was just pressure sales. And screamed when at 4.5 months, I walked in, and got it. 10 weeks later for a Maggie Sottero. Before their long planned wedding. Because as long as they have the gowns, they will ship orders up to some magic 3.5 to 4 months out.
People who go to a JP for a wedding in an off the rack dress, will be cancelling gown orders . So do not lose hope over timelines. And shops always have dresses someone ordered with a deposit, then cancelled their wedding and never paid the rest. And people who love and order a dress, and four months later go back, and are told no refunds. Too late to cancel the order But if the new dress is $300 more, and in their shop now, well let's work something out. And the shop has a dress to sell. There, or arriving in one month. So shops you call may say, I don't have that dress, but have this one, very close in style, and give you a try-on samole dress by pickup and return . No worries.

I have a different profession, and kids to take care of, and no longer make gowns except free as a gift, or for physically challenged people with a curvature of the spine, turned joints, people referred to me because I can make for their body. I talked to two whose family called 2 weeks ago, please, please. A rural area, I told them to call 1.5 hours, it 2 hrs away to big college towns, now with no students.
The number who buy advance order or off the rack is usually amazing in Senior or last grad school year. They each called shops, one did pick up and try on. Bought it the next day. The other has an appointment in the other town, to pick up and try. They have an unusually large stock they always have on hand for May graduations, May to Sept wedding , usually walk in and buy off the rack. If you are near a town with 5,000 to 50,000 students gone home, check bridal shops.

Congratulations! I think Nordstrom is closing down their bridal shops soon and I've seen a lot of the wedding dresses online going on sale (like less than $1000) so definitely worth a look! Nordstrom is super easy with free shipping/returns and the dresses are beautiful.

Have you tried looking on sites like Lulu’s, ASOS, and BHLDN? They have really nice wedding dresses you could try on at home. Lulu’s has cute wedding dresses that are very affordable.

Anthropology online I ordered dresses and if I didn’t like I returned them and got a credit immediately. I did find mine. Order 2 sizes bigger then a normal dress. I am 4/6. I got a 10. Needs some taking in. But they are very classy dresses and affordable.

I purchased mine from CocoMelody they have the try at home options. Just be aware that the dresses do come from China if you get it custom made. I'm sure the other ones do too but I don't know for sure. Good Luck!

I was going to to Azazie's Rent before you buy option, but the Sample dresses were currently out in my size. I was waiting for them to come back in but had made an appointment with DB to get measured and I happened to find the perfect dress well under my budget, so I was happy with that. My bridesmaids are getting their dresses from Azazie, but we're pretty sure of the style, so they're just ordering it.
