2019 - how was yours?

Kelly, on December 17, 2019 at 3:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

Our 2019 was definitely insane (in a good way) - the bulk of the wedding planning happened then, along with the actual wedding, which feels like it was very far away. 2x weeks after our wedding, we put an offer on a house - which was accepted, on December 6th we officially settled, and moved in on December 8th. The past 9 days has been super hectic as we have been unpacking & settling in. Couple that with that we are somehow hosting our first holiday at hour brand new house (this weekend), plus doing holiday obligations, then FINALLY leaving on our honeymoon on Christmas morning... and my husband is working 6 days a week (seasonal) we are truly exhausted people. Both my husband & I agree that this was one epic year, and we are both very much looking forward to a much more relaxing 2020 (including tackling some home improvement stuff).

How was your 2019? Did the final year of the decade go out w/ a bang?

Phew. This year has been looong lol. My FH started it out jobless and looking, I was at a terrible job where I was being overworked and underappreciated. We both got new jobs in April, but his was a contract to hire so contracting for a few months. I ended up having some major blood sugar issues that resulted in me having panic attacks and intense anxiety - it was really bad - which led to my diabetes diagnosis in June.

I have since cut soda out of my life and regulate my sugar intake. Low carbs- counting even because the diabetes counselor helped me set up a system - and just generally working on myself. And now the pounds have melted off! Lot of anger at first, a lot of grieving. It took me time to come to terms with it.
And we got engaged in August!!! My ring we picked out in early August, so my finger was bigger and it's now too big. The majority of our planning happened after that because things book fast in DFW - and I picked out my dress. Only to have to exchange it for a new one when I lost thirty pounds!
It's been a long but good year. My FH has a full time job he loves, and I'm feeling so much better in general. In other words, we're going strong. Looking forward to the next several decades as his wife!

Long year - with a great ending & a beautiful dress.

It's always better for the ring to be too big vs. too small!

    Here's to a great 2020!

We worked on fixing problems in our relationship, got engaged in May, and went through a long and somewhat stressful process of getting an apartment together (lots of obstacles to get around) and we moved in on December 7th. We’re also still working on unpacking and getting everything organized and put away haha. My FH just got moved to overnights which has completely screwed up our plans for time together, and I’m working 7 days a week right now (picked up a part time seasonal job on my 3 days off from my full time job). It’s been a busy year, but overall it’s been a good one. It’s definitely been our best year together. Here’s to more good ones ahead for all of us Smiley smile

Fellow December mover, I do not envy you at all. LOL

Moving is terrible, moving in December is so much worse, moving when your husband is a courier driver (or one or both are seasonal employees just suck).

But cheers to ending on a great note - and many great years ahead!

My FH is a Truck driver and was able to borrow a box truck from work which helped a LOT. And we couldn’t have had a better day to move. It was unseasonably warm at 62F. It was gorgeous!

Woke up engaged on New Year's.

On a lark, took 3 friends and went to a Kleinfeld pop up shop a WEEK later, walked away with my wedding dress... and home to a feverish fiance.

    Turns out he had mono.

DH and I did a reading with some friends, last theatre piece I did until the wedding.

Then a coworker of mine passed away suddenly. Went to his funeral the same day we went to our first venue, so I was a complete emotional wreck.

Did precana. Was absolutely traumatized by it, but was essentially ignored by the priest at DH's home parish.

DH's grandma passed away. He had to go out to her funeral on the same day my parents were coming to visit, so I couldn't go with him.

Got turned down by the priest and had to scramble to figure out the ceremony with less than 4 months to go.

Had a killer wedding shower, but my mother was massively inappropriate.

Friends took us down to see our favorite baseball team as a "surprise" (I knew, DH didn't), on the same day mother declined to come to the wedding. Online. Never called me.

Attempted to talk to family about the wedding, it became clear they had no interest in why in the world I would maybe not have a great relationship with my mother. (But they gladly listened to her reasons.)

    Celebrated 7 years with DH.

Cut off mother completely for mental health reasons.

    GOT MARRIED.

Had a truly wonderful wedding, it was perfect, and beautiful, and I'm still downloading photos!

Got wedding highlight video back, got pictures back, got raw footage from wedding back.

Food poisoning at a Halloween party. Do not recommend.

    Got thank you notes DONE.

    Had first married Thanksgiving.

We're honeymooning in January, after DH has a show. Hoping for more things after that, but ...

    Oof. It's been a year.

Let me think how this year has been. My fh and i finally picked a date, after changing it 5 times. Booked the church. We found out our venue was going to give us 25% off if we booked in oct so we did. Even though i was freaking out for almost 7 months, I was so glad to save that money. Even more happy the place was not booked. My fh and i worked out and i still feel like we are asking questions, really getting to know each other. Some have been calm and others have turned into enlargements but we have always worked it out.

My fh accompany me to my first hospital procedure. It was cute he drove me to the hospital and took care of me. He listen to everything the dr told him so he knew what to do. Something my mom would never do lol. We have a lot of things booked and I can't wait for next year. In 4 months i'll be marrying my best friend.

It was pretty good for me 🙂. I presented my research at a conference. Celebrated our 3 year anniversary. I graduated with my masters degree. Started a new job and realized it wasn’t for me. Found a new job that I absolutely love. Ending the year with just the two of us ❤️. I’m looking forward to 2020 🙂

It is so exciting! I'm due on the 27th! I keep hoping she'll be a week early so her birthday can be 02/20/2020. Everybody else hopes she's 2 days late for a leap year baby. Lol
Either way it's hard to believe that in about 10 weeks we'll have our daughter!

Wow, that has been one heck of year!

But at the end you are married, and our looking forward to your honeymoon in January. We start our honeymoon on Christmas, & are looking forward to it.

Food poisoning is SO not fun.

Great job on doing the thank you notes - I finally got around to sending mine. I had our printed out with the new address, and didn't want to send them until we moved just in case we got any bounced back.

I hope that 2020 brings you & your husband peace Smiley smile

Awe, that was so cute that he took you to the hospital & stayed with you. One of my husband & I funniest memories was when he was in the hospital 4 years ago. He came back from a Vegas guys trip with a horrible stomach ache (just proves what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas), well after like 2 days he still wasn't feeling better, so I was able to get him to go to the hospital - only problem, my car was still snowed in (from a snowstorm 3 days before), and his wasn't (he had a garage), so he drove his car (which is a stick) to the hospital. At the hospital they said that they were going to give him pain meds for the pain (after ruling out a bunch of things), but he couldn't drive. So I had to call his old roommate & wake him up (so that he could drive my now husband car - again it's a stick), and then I had to walk to my apartment (lucky it was really close to the hospital) shovel out the stupid car (it was almost clean) drive & pickup the roommate. We go into the hospital & the roommate states (super loudly) everyone thinks it's easy to be me & I want drugs, must be nice. LOL! After which we were back at my boyfriends house & he still was on the pain meds & was running up & down the steps saying - I feel great. A few hours later - when the meds wore off, that crashed & burned but it was so funny.

Saving money is always great & weddings are so expensive, it's great when you can find a way to save.

My husband & I have been together for 6 years and we still learn new things about each other.

That is awesome! Congrats on the master degree, very well deserve feeling of accomplishment.

Jobs can be funny. I had three jobs my entire life. First job I loved - stayed there for like 8 years, second job I hated - stayed there for like 4 days LOL, third job I love & am still here - 5+ years later.

Hope 2020 brings all great things!

Congratulations on the wedding and house!!! This has been a super big year for me. In January, I landed my first big girl job and started my last semester of college. May, I graduated from Texas A&M and got engaged a week later in New Orleans. I moved into my first house with FH and started my job a few weeks after that. In the summer, I watched my fiance officially become a firefighter, bought my first car, and my wedding dress. As far as planning, I've made all my decisions and put deposits down on everything. We've also recently decided to purchase our first home when this lease is up in June. BIG things happening. I keep thinking once this has all come and gone, I won't have anything to look forward to anymore. LOL Congratulations again Smiley smile
