20 days left please help.

Soon, on August 14, 2019 at 11:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 16
Hi friends! I have 20 days left. YAY! However my FH and I are struggling financially. We still need catering, drinks (soda, water, alcohol), and my bouquets & Boutinnieres. We have $100 left until paycheck which is after the wedding anyways. We've asked family for help every one stuck there nose out and said NO. I'm not sure what to do.

I would normally never recommend going into debt to throw a party, but if seems like canceling would end up costing you more than keeping your date. Can you use a credit card? Apply for a personal loan? Do you have things you can sell?

Maybe you can use a credit card or small personal loan and pay it off immediately with monetary gifts you receive at the wedding.

I agree with this. Choose a very cheap catering option (you can usually get BBQ or Mexican for $10 a person) and put it on a credit card. Or host a short reception outside of traditional meal time and just have desserts.

In this situation, I would just use a credit card, get cheap catering, skip alcohol, skip real flowers, skip decorations... how many guests are you expecting if you don't mind?

Look to see what you can trim and get really inexpensive. For instance, my groomsman did not have boutonnieres and my SIL bought all her flowers from produce junction for about $20. You may also be able to downsize some packages to save a bit of money. Maybe see if anyone would be willing to contribute to a potluck and do a BBQ.

Otherwise, you will need to look at a loan or credit situation.

Just as Caytlyn said! You can always pay back your loans and credit cards with the monetary gifts you get.

You can also do some Uber or get a quick part time job on the side to get some extra money. A small loan from work is a possibility if your fiancé job offers this. This is usually no more than $500 which of course depends on his work but is always good to ask.

Since you said you lost your job can FH apply for a loan through the bank to cover what you owe left? And skimp where you can. Places like hobby lobby sell premade boutineers for a decent price, and you can get grocery store flowers and put together your own bouquets day of. May be a nice bonding experience for you and your girls! My sister did this and her flowers looked lovely. I'd probably skip the alcohol if it's not in the budget anymore or make it byob.

I'd say consider a cake and punch reception where all you serve is cake is and light snacks. Skip the alcohol, skip the big meal, don't buy anything extra.
I typically wouldn't say use a credit card but if you're buying a cheap cake and snacks from the grocery store then putting it on a credit card isn't the worst.

Host a garage sale, sell things on Craigslist, do what you can to get cash. Going into debt is not worth it

I would only recommend this in last minute circumstances like yours but Paypal Credit has a Bill Me Later option. You make minimum payments and if you pay it off within 6 months you pay no interest. Your credit loan amount depends on your credit score of course.
FH paid for my dress this way and my wedding ring. It’s there for big purchases.

Make absolutely sure the places you buy from has this option because it has to say Bill Me Later, not just Paypal.

I'd recommend just doing a cake and punch reception if that's the case. I mean you could put everything on a credit card but just be mindful that you also don't want to spend an over exorbitant amount. So still stay within something reasonable. Good luck !

    Apply for unemployment.

    Work for GrubHub or DoorDash.
Find a family to babysit for by posting in neighborhood Facebook groups.

Offer yourself for house cleaning services in neighborhood Facebook groups.

    Donate plasma for money.

Search through your local Craigslist page for focus groups and research trials that pay.

Your local Craigslist page will likely also have ads for brand ambassadors that work booths in grocery stores on the weekends.

Go to your bank and see if you can request a cash advance on a line of credit.

I am so sorry to hear about your job, and I cant imagine how much stress you're in.

A few ideas for you: have the bridesmaids walk a single rose or flower. That way you can buy a dozen roses for cheap from a grocery store (wrap a ribbon around them if you'd like to make it look more thought out) and get yourself some hydrangeas since at the grocery store they run cheap!

As other people have said BBQ is always a cheap option! OR have your close family each bring a dish.

For drinks- you can buy a few gallons of water, put them in pretty drink dispensers (5 below/ dollar store sells them) throw some lemons in there so it looks nicer and you can do the same for soda. As for alcohol, thats tough but maybe you can do a BYOB?

At least these options will be cheap to put on a credit card and won't throw you into a major debt!

Where is your venue? Can you do appetizer type foods and BYOB? There is also the option of cash bar.

I would contact a grocery store and see if they can't do sandwhich platters and things like that even and use their floral department and go bare minimum for flowers. It will be fine, and it's YOUR wedding so don't worry about anyone else.
