I have a friend who's getting married in 2018 but she got engaged about 4 years ago. She hasn't really started thinking about wedding planning until recently because there was a lot of time in between. She liked having a long engagement because, as you said, it allows plenty of time to save up.

We have actually been engaged nearly 6 years, lol. It just hasn't necessarily been for financial reasons.

We are having a long engagement to ensure we can host the wedding we want. I think waiting until you can afford to host everyone properly is ideal!

We're having a two and a half year engagement so I can finish my undergrad and graduate degrees first.

Your engagement can be as long or as short as you need/want it to be. If you mean "how did it go" as in, how your relationship stood the test of a long engagement, I'd say that's not even an issue. For us, nothing changed when we got engaged. Just now I get to look at bridal magazines LOL.

We will have been engaged for a little over two years when we get married. We wanted a long engagement for financial reasons and so that we'd be able to live in the same state after the wedding (we are currently long distance).

My engagement is two years and two days long. And I'm 3 months from being halfway through. They aren't kidding when they say time flies. I can't believe I'm about to be under a year left. It's honestly the best decision we made. At first I was on the fence because I was just impatient and didn't want to wait. I'm so glad we did. We have so much time. We found amazing vendors for great prices since we picked so early. Lots of time to save.

I've been engaged since May 2015, getting married April 2017. Just a little shy of 2 years. Our 2 year engagement has given us the time to plan and save for our special day. Happy planning @Chinique

    92 days and counting..

I am! We're doing it to save up money. I thought it would be great having extra time to plan and make decisions, but it turns out we really don't need the extra time. I am a HUGE planner and I planned our entire wedding in the few months we've been engaged. While there is still plenty of time to change my mind, and I'm sure there are some aspects that I will change (not much, though), but I think that is the downside of having a long engagement. I have all these ideas, but I can't really do anything until we have a bit more money saved up and are closer to the actual day. It's frustrating, but it's better than being in a rush.

Engaged in the beginning of September 2016, and will be marrying in the end of September 2018. We did this for financial reasons and because FH is back in school and finishing his degree. He'll graduate winter 2017 and since we wanted a fall wedding and didn't want to get married and then have him go to school the next day, we decided to wait. If school wasn't an issue, we may have made due with a smaller wedding to get married sooner.

I'll be engaged for two years in February, my FH and agreed on a longer engagement because we got engaged very early in the relationship, and we both wanted that time behind it before we got married. I've appreciated the extra time, the word 'fiancé' gets old pretty quick, but I've enjoyed being able to take my time with some of the aspects of planning the wedding. I think it depends on the couple though!

We have a 2 year engagement. It was nice to have our pick for vendors for the most part. Also, being able to set our budget and save has been great. It allowed us to sock money away and still be ok with small emergencies that have cropped up. If you are a planner, it really helps your stress/anxiety level to know that some things you can knock out early and worry about the small details closer to.

Our engagement is going to be a few months shy of 2 years, it was/has been a smart move. We have been able to save money, get deals and pay things off as we go but it also has given us more time to relax and plan. It really comes down to your personal situation. Happy we took more time to plan and save.

We got engaged August 12, 2015 and get married August 5, 2017. Got a lot of the vendors at 2016 rates when we booked late 2015 for the 2017 wedding so that was nice. Now we're at 7 months and it feels like it's coming up quick!

I think that's a really great idea! When me and FH get married we will have been engaged for a year and a half! I feel like it gives you a lot more time to prepare financially and since I'm super indecisive it is giving me enough time to make decisions of what I truly want!

We got engaged November 2015 and are getting married October 2018. I am hating the wait only because I just wanted to start planning right away. Plus I had so many people ask how wedding planning was going. Although financially, I'm glad we waited!

Take the time now to do some research on vendors you may want. But, also enjoy being engaged! The 2 years will go by so fast! It doesn't feel like I've been engaged for over a year. Have fun!

I'm doing a 2 year engagement. We were engaged December 2015, will be married on December 2017.

I'm so glad we waited!!! We will be able to afford so many nice things we couldn't have afforded if we didn't wait to save up.
