We just got engaged in December and decided to wait about two and a half years so we can get some debt paid off and start saving so we can pay everything wedding related off without having to worry too much about it! Although, that hasn't stopped me from searching Pinterest every other day!

We are having a 2 year engagement because:

    1. we got engaged after only 6 months of dating so waiting 2 years is fine with me

    2. our goal for 2017 is to save up and buy our own home this fall

    3. a long engagement allows us plenty of time to save $

By the time we get married it's going to be almost three years from the time we got engaged. I agree with PPs that a longer engagement means you're saving for longer and will probably be able to afford nicer things for your wedding.

I have been engaged since Dec 2015 and getting married August 2018. We chose this for financial reasons but it's up to if you prefer long or short engagement.I second what Melissa says gives a lot of time to find amazing vendors, save on pricing and see different sales and ways to save .

Thanks ladies now I don't feel so bad, people made it seem like it was crazy to wait that long.

We got engaged in June of 2016 and will be married in July of 2018. We booked our major vendors right away (mostly inclusive venue, photographer, and DJ) and haven't done much since. The photographer locked us in to her 2016 pricing since she hadn't done pricing for 2017 or 2018 yet.

Now we have some time to plan the smaller details, like flowers, since there are so many alternatives from a traditional florist. I also have time to watch the trends of sales on things like invitations (Black Friday!!) and trunk shows for gowns.

We will be a few days short of three years engaged when we tie the knot! It has been a blessing to have all of this time to really figure out what we want. FH likes to take his time when thinking about the future and any sort of plans, so the long engagement really worked for us. (Definitely didn't work for our parents who have only recently stopped complaining about how long we've been engaged for...).

We got engaged July of 2015 and originally planned for a Sept 2017 wedding so that would have been over 2 years. We've pushed the date up but it was still about 1.5 years and it was great. lots of time to save and plan and enjoy just being engaged. You only get to do that once too!

I am doing an over 2 year engagement for money and housing reasons. We have been together for 6 years. It honestly is hard not to jump into getting things done. Only thing we have done is the venue. I've been lurking on here and getting advice as I go, and now realize that waiting for bridesmaids and everything is a good idea. I am just having fun pinning stuff and going to open houses! Enjoy it, even if it is hard!

We got engaged Sept 2015 and wedding July 2017.... 22 months and we have under 6 months to go.. It will literally FLY by it's insane how fast it goes. I wouldn't change it.. it was the perfect amount of time for us to save for the wedding we wanted without stressing!

I heard the same thing about being engaged for so long, especially since my grandparents aren't doing too good. Trying not to let that get to me as well and enjoy! Best of luck! @chinique Q

By the time we get married we will have been engaged 1 year 10 months and 8 days. We spent the first year without planning, trying to get financially stable and be able to have the wedding we want

We will have had a 2 year engagement by the time we get married. It's very helpful when it comes to saving and budgeting. I was able to save 10% on my venue and about $400 on my photographer for booking two years in advance.

I got engaged on June 10, 2017 and we just decided to do a 2 year engagement. My fiance is in the process of joining the military so we feel this is the best decision for us at the moment. Additionally, this will help us prepare better financially. I am excited now since we have finally made a decision. Still no date yet, but we know the time-frame which helps my anxiety a little better.
