2 Venues, but only 1 Choice...recommendations?

Future Mrs. Polar Bear, on September 29, 2018 at 10:40 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 41

So my FH and I finished our venue tours yesterday, and now we're trying to decide which venue we're going to choose. We got it down to 2 options. We're having a hard time deciding, and would like others opinions, please. I know in the end it's our choice, but hearing other voices can help.

Both Options> Provide tables, chairs, budget friendly (we're on a tight budget), BYO dessert, and the representatives at both places are professional, responsive, casual, and friendly.

Option 1: Fox Brook Lodge @ Fox Brook Park in Brookfield (Waukesha County)

Pros: Our dog can be in the ceremony as our Ring Bearer; Beautiful location; Lot's of options for outside ceremony but also back-up plan under Pavilion should it rain (still beautiful, Lake would be backdrop); BYO everything (decor, caterer, desserts, alcohol) alcohol license included with rental fee. Very little decor. needed, maybe just some twinkle lights. Beautiful useable fireplace, and huge restrooms were there is a BIG place to get set-up, if needed. Secluded, casual, relaxing, peaceful with nature. Nearby hotels have 5 stars and budget friendly. Beautiful wood beams. If we rented round tables, enough room for seating area by fireplace, 60 seated guests, and dance floor.

Cons:

Small but doable. Must get creative with decor since ceiling is so high, to first beam it's 14 feet. BYO catering, etc, means having to find a caterer that's budget friendly and can keep food hot during travel and serve time (buffet/stations)[there is no oven in kitchen just freeze, fridge, counter space, and catering sink); floor is laminate on cement.

Option 2: The Hub @ Cedar Creek

Pros: 5 stars reviews on wedding wire +; budget friendly prices through-out; outside ceremony; beautiful mahogany tables, chairs, and dance floor; BYO desserts; customize catering and alcohol menu (wiling to bring in alcohol they don't normally carry at no extra cost); Decor whatever we want no restrictions, pretty bar area separate but connected to banquet area; very nice bartenders; ceremony any location we'd like on grounds, do provide a very nice looking arch should we want to use; rent linens $2/person (included: table linens, napkins, etc); parking included; close to nearby 5 star hotels that are budget friendly; okay leaving decorations to pick-up until next day; okay for peeps to leave their cars in parking lot overnight; spot for DJ; No food or bar minimum; but $500 non refundable deposit that goes towards final cost at end; have entire area (outside/in) from 8am - 1am, day of. No problem with outside vendors coming in for decor. and desserts.

Cons:

What happens if we don't like the food? It's completely customize able but food tasting isn't until after the Superbowl, and we're only trying the entrees. Not nearly as beautiful or peaceful or secluded as Fox Brook Lodge, because it's located off of a street. The Creek is very pretty but still nearby houses, etc. Would have more work to do with decor, and would have to match our colors somewhat to their green/tan flooring and walls.

I personally like the second option, aside from the reception room area. That green...it kinda looks like an old restaurant, to me. Can you do something to cover that up? I say go with your gut. Which one calls out to you? Which one do you see yourself getting married at? Chose that one. At the end of the day, it's what you and your FS want. Good luck my dear & happy planning! ❤

Oooo tough decision i would have to say the 1st one, i am a total outdoorsy person and the light that comes in from that huge window will give you amazing lightly for pictures, the cons of the first seem a lot less intense then the cons in the 2nd as well!

Honestly it sounds like you like the look of the first one better. Picking your own vendors can be a huge plus especially if you want a specific kind of food or want to be flexible with cheap options. (BBQ, italian and breakfast can all be really cheap.) It will take more planning on your part but can be done as cheaply as the other one. As long as you feel comfortable organizing all the vendors one is perfectly doable.

I vote the first one too, I love how simple the inside is and it would be really easy to decorate. The outside is so beautiful and would be such a pretty place to get married. It seems like you want something secluded so that seems perfect.

I’d go with the first one. Food is the most important factor to me, and I wouldn’t book a place where I couldn’t taste the food in advance. This way you can shop around for caterers and find one in your budget that you love (and do a tasting before booking). I wouldn’t worry about the venue not having a kitchen, most caterers bring all the equipment they need.

I also think the first location is so beautiful, and it sounds like you connected more with it and how secluded and peaceful it is.

    Amber,

Well that's the interesting part, for the ceremony the Fox Brook Lodge defiantly calls out to me, but the reception the Bar and dance floor at The Hub defiantly fit the bill. Too bad I can't merge the two together.

I agree, the green is a hard press. My FH actually said last night, can we cover that up? I'd have no idea how, but I did think about making new curtains for the windows that way that green isn't showing at least.

I'm not a very indecisive person, but we just can't decide, ha!

Thank you for your opinion it's greatly appreciated.

    Becca,

I think I'm comfortable organizing all the vendors except for the catering. My brain is having a hard time figuring out how caterer's do it with no kitchen. I've read a lot and it all goes hand in hand with what my mom says, if there a good caterer they have a truck or they figure it out. Doesn't make me feel any less anxiety about it though. I found only one place so far that does a truck to a place like Fox Brook for their caterer and omgosh the prices I could put the down payment on my house, ha!

For example: I don't want to have the issue like when you go to KFC and your chicken is amazing and crispy but by the time you get home its soggy and luke warm. Ugh!

    Alexandra,

Yes, the green is defiantly hard to get passed for sure. But the Mahagoney chairs and dance floor, and customize able food and bar, make you want to take a second look, ha!

    Maggie,

Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to view my discussion and stating your opinion. The first one is very beautiful, secluded, and calming. I'm just having a hard time getting passed the catering part, it just sounds like such an added stress and anxiety to me, and added huge cost$$ for having a place with basically no kitchen.

    Kat,

Thank you. Your opinion is very helpful. I don't know why my brain can't get passed the darn caterer bit. I just don't think my area has a lot of options for keeping food hott like that without it costing a HUGE amount of money.

Your right though, not tasting the food ahead of time does worry me a bit. I mean while I was there the food smelled amazing but that doesn't mean it will taste good, no matter how much customizing he's willing to do for us. I mean I'm sure if we paid for he he'd be willing to do an earlier tasting for us, but hmm...

In my experience caterers will tell you what foods transport well and which ones don't. You have to remember that they are professionals. They know what they are doing. It sounds like your anxiety will be a problem throughout. (I understand cause letting go of control is hard.) I think if you meet with a caterer it will put your mind at ease though. Right now make the decision for venue on what you really want and let the professionals do their jobs. It will work out.

I vote the first one. You might just have to get creative with food. Ask what catering company they would use. A lot of venues like that have people they use and know. Before you decide check around for caterers, since I feel that is why you haven't said yes. Really think id where you ser yourself get married.
