2 Venues, but only 1 Choice...recommendations?

So my FH and I finished our venue tours yesterday, and now we're trying to decide which venue we're going to choose. We got it down to 2 options. We're having a hard time deciding, and would like others opinions, please. I know in the end it's our choice, but hearing other voices can help.

Both Options> Provide tables, chairs, budget friendly (we're on a tight budget), BYO dessert, and the representatives at both places are professional, responsive, casual, and friendly.

Option 1: Fox Brook Lodge @ Fox Brook Park in Brookfield (Waukesha County)

Pros: Our dog can be in the ceremony as our Ring Bearer; Beautiful location; Lot's of options for outside ceremony but also back-up plan under Pavilion should it rain (still beautiful, Lake would be backdrop); BYO everything (decor, caterer, desserts, alcohol) alcohol license included with rental fee. Very little decor. needed, maybe just some twinkle lights. Beautiful useable fireplace, and huge restrooms were there is a BIG place to get set-up, if needed. Secluded, casual, relaxing, peaceful with nature. Nearby hotels have 5 stars and budget friendly. Beautiful wood beams. If we rented round tables, enough room for seating area by fireplace, 60 seated guests, and dance floor.

Cons:

Small but doable. Must get creative with decor since ceiling is so high, to first beam it's 14 feet. BYO catering, etc, means having to find a caterer that's budget friendly and can keep food hot during travel and serve time (buffet/stations)[there is no oven in kitchen just freeze, fridge, counter space, and catering sink); floor is laminate on cement.

Option 2: The Hub @ Cedar Creek

Pros: 5 stars reviews on wedding wire +; budget friendly prices through-out; outside ceremony; beautiful mahogany tables, chairs, and dance floor; BYO desserts; customize catering and alcohol menu (wiling to bring in alcohol they don't normally carry at no extra cost); Decor whatever we want no restrictions, pretty bar area separate but connected to banquet area; very nice bartenders; ceremony any location we'd like on grounds, do provide a very nice looking arch should we want to use; rent linens $2/person (included: table linens, napkins, etc); parking included; close to nearby 5 star hotels that are budget friendly; okay leaving decorations to pick-up until next day; okay for peeps to leave their cars in parking lot overnight; spot for DJ; No food or bar minimum; but $500 non refundable deposit that goes towards final cost at end; have entire area (outside/in) from 8am - 1am, day of. No problem with outside vendors coming in for decor. and desserts.

Cons:

What happens if we don't like the food? It's completely customize able but food tasting isn't until after the Superbowl, and we're only trying the entrees. Not nearly as beautiful or peaceful or secluded as Fox Brook Lodge, because it's located off of a street. The Creek is very pretty but still nearby houses, etc. Would have more work to do with decor, and would have to match our colors somewhat to their green/tan flooring and walls.

    Future mrs b,

Thank you. That is wear I'm at for both is catering. The problem is one is holding our spot and could find another person to fill it immediately and the other location (fox brook) starts opening there remains 365 days out which is this coming Friday and they book fast so we can of have yo decide bytomorrow...I don't want to rush into anything but I also don't want to miss out on two good spots and start from scratch... that would stink.

I say #1! Sounds like a lot less work (decor can cost a lot). While both outdoor spaces are beautiful, the lodge for the reception is fabulous!

Will you be doing rentals? If you are, I think long wood tables would look so romantic in the lodge!

I think 1 looks a little better than 2. Food is huge to me so it was important for me to be able to bring in my own caterer so I am biased. For the other place I’d request that they give me a tasting before I book honestly and if they were adamant about not doing it I would pass because of that (I REALLLLLLLLY love food lol).

    Pirate & 60s bride,

Yes, wed have to go rentals unless we want those plastic black chairs and black rectangular tables in the photo.

The lodge is alot more work minus the decor, since everything is BYO. Previously I was thinking would tables would look great plus linens wouldn't be needed than but I've seen those tables be super expensive.

Right now my brain is thinking I could probably get the guy of the hub to let us do an earlier tasting if we said wed pay for it just to basically have a dinner and try exactly what were looking for maybe and the decor there wouldn't need to be much just some different curtains instead of those green ones and maybe some paintings or something on the walls that match our wedding instead of what he has.
So I'm torn because I love that everything is on site at the hub and its within budget and the bar is defiantly fits me and fh. The chairs tables and dance floor are great! But the location isn't amazing.
Though the lodge is beautiful, secluded, and I feel at home there... even if I get my brain past the part of the catering thing I'm wondering if it will give us the same casual comfortable feeling the bar would at the hub when it comes to the reception. The lodge is gorgeous but it is small, so it would be cozy but I'm not sure if it would be comfortable cozy because of the set-up that would be necessary.
    Such a tough decision....

    Latasha,
Food is a big deal for us too which is probably why I'm having a hard time with both sites. One trying later after booking though I think I could ask for it sooner if I really want to book the hub. The lodge because if I book I'm screwed if I don't end up finding a caterer. Our area just isn't as broad with what we're looking for for catering. At least not from what I've seen so fast far...

I hear you. This is a big deal and a big decision. Sorry you don’t have a lot of options. Not sure where you’ve looked so I’m sorry if I’m suggesting something you’ve already done...but have you looked into one of your favorite restaurants to see if they cater?

I like the first one best. Ask them what caterers they've worked with in the past. Then you know these people definitely can make do with no kitchen. My fiancé and I talked to a caterer that brought all their own equipment this way they'd never have to rely on a kitchen at the venue. I'm sure you can find a few like that!

First one, that green carpet is hideous! But, for me, food is the most important part of our wedding so I don't want to get a surprise when it comes to the food, also with bringing your own caterer, you can do anything and have anything within the budget you have. I found a restaurant that caters and brings everything to keep the food hot for guests, so ask those questions before making a decision! The first one could be decorated for very cheap, but what can one do about that green carpet? Not much.

    Latasha,

No its completely okay, I appreciate all help. One of our favorite places do cater but not really wanting hot dogs or chicken strips on my wedding day ha! I at least want italian beef which they fo great at but they dont have another option that my picky eating habits like. The other places do but they're small so they don't have the capacity to heat long distance or do things on site like professional caterers might. Unless they charged us for them renting those kind of things, not sure if they'd be willing to do that.

Thank you. I'd really wish I could just walk into a place and be like bam! That's the one. I thought that was the lodge but than the byo everything stresses my brain out a bit.

    Emily,

I'll keep looking. He did recommend one but I wasn't sold on the food options. You know wed like casual and everytime I look for something when I put the word wedding into the mix people try to get fancy put a huge up charge on things its kind of ridiculous. One place I found has a wedding menu and it's so not our style, but the picnic menu isnt I deal but its much closer to our style,... how do you get a place to let you not order off the wedding menu for a wedding?

Sounds like a tough call. You definitely want the place you feel all giddy about having your wedding/reception, but also with least amount of decor/rentals because that stuff adds up (the rentals weren't even as bad as the delivery costs! We scaled back to 3 wood tables + gold flatware + amazing gold chargers which came to about $500 for 15 guests. Not bad but delivery/set-up was over $500 because we wanted it delivered before noon, needed an "after-hours" pick-up, etc. Happily our venue got wood tables we could use and we picked up the flatware/chargers ourselves--total cost was less than $200!).

Totally up to you, but every guest adds up...way beyond the F&B costs. Tables, chairs, linens, place settings. Just keep that in mind. Smiley smile
