I think it also depends on the table sizes. We have tables of 10. If we were to have a "head table" we'd need seating for 12. Not going to work out. So instead we removed ourselves to a sweetheart table and left the other 10 at the same table. Worked out perfectly in my opinion. Also our sweetheart table isn't "in front of everyone." Our tables are round, so by design, not everybody can stare at us. In addition, we're nestled in the middle of the other tables, so it's just like a guest table, only smaller. All these things can help keep the focus off you, if you really don't want to be stared at during dinner (which I don't think is a real issue in the first place).

@CatLady, I'm opposed to it because of the sentiment behind the tradition of feeding the cake to your new spouse. Traditionally, it's a symbol of your first act of service towards your new husband/wife. The cake smash seems counterintuitive to that, IMO.

I love sweetheart tables! I'm excited to have a space for just me and FH so we can take a breath and enjoy each others company.

I've been doing this for 11 years and I've seen maybe 4 non-sweetheart tables.

I hate the sweetheart tables for all the reasons said in the article. I don't want to be on display like royalty or anything like that. And I hate head tables as well...in fact, I hate the whole bridal party thing in general. Expensive and stressful waste of time so I'm skipping it. FH and I will be sitting and mingling among our guests and families.

As for everyone freaking out about the father walking the bride down the aisle...if you notice the wording it says ANYONE can walk a bride down the aisle....as her partner, not her owner. Well, my dad is walking me down the aisle...as a moral support partner and because it's important to him. My officiant will not be asking "who gives this bride away" or anything like that because we both found it weird and creepy.

Saw this list too. I will be having a sweetheart table and idgaf who thinks it's overrated. Also wtf is a bridesmaid butt pic?! Who would agree with that or do that as an adult?

ETA: also sorry not sorry about my plunging neckline! Absolutely love it Smiley smile

A lot of the things in this article are hardly trends. I've never seen a bridesmaid butt pic, a bride with a giant headpiece, or life-size bride replica wedding cakes. If I ever saw a cake the size of a human, I'd eat the hell out of it. Cake is cake.

    Also, I'm totally #TeamSweetheartTable!

Has anyone actually seen a fight over the Garter/Bouquet Toss? They mention this in the article and I've never actually witnessed one. Stories, please.

@catlady - There was a bride on here who did a little nose boop of frosting with her husband instead of a full-on cake smash. That's an option if you don't want to look like a fuddy dudddy in front of your family while not wanting to ruin your makeup or dress. FH and I agreed not to do one though. IDGAF if people think we're boring because of it.

Team Sweetheart Table here! I haven't been to a wedding that hasn't had one. The bride and groom can still totally mingle and party, they also just get a chance to actually have a few minutes together and eat the food they spent all that money on! Also, it means that the bridal party can sit with their SOs/friends. I don't think the Sweetheart Table is going away anytime soon.

    I hate this list...

I am having my father give me away.. like seriously??? who are you to judge.

& I am also having a sweetheart table.. it's my wedding, my guests are being hosted properly I don't see an issue with having a table.

I was hoping the cake-cutting tradition would be on there! I'm on a personal mission to try to get everyone to ditch it Smiley smile It was the most awkward part of our wedding by far and we were left with a montage of "wtf am I supposed to be doing?" pictures
