This happened to me too! i only get like 1 cold sore a year and of course i got a horrible one 2 days before the wedding. i don't have any magic cures but i did find that Abreva helped it. mine are always right at the corner of my mouth so it wasn't super visible, but very uncomfortable. using a little grapeseed or coconut oil as moisturizer helped with the usual dryness. i also let my HMUA know and she did her best to keep the area concealed and comfortable. good luck!

It's pretty painful but I've used rubbing alcohol to dry mine out (this was before I started taking medication for it) and it seemed to help it heal faster, but you also ended up with a scab instead.

I've heard that essential oils can be beneficial, but I've never tried it out myself. Oils include: Tea tree oil, peppermint oil, anise oil, oregano oil, lemon balm oil, thyme oil, ginger oil, chamomile oil, sandalwood oil, and eucalyptus oil. Make sure you dilute it with coconut oil and use pure oils!

This may seems gross to u BUT dont knock it until u try it....My granny used to put our earwax on our cold sores....Just dig in your ear and rub it on the irrated area...In about a day or two it should be gone or leaving...U can do it as often as possible..
P.S....It has to be your OWN earwax

What medication do you take valtrex? and what dosing? you likely will want to change your dosing from preventative dose to treatment dose as they are different. also the oils are supposed to be helpful. additionally avoid irritating foods such as acidic and spicy foods that will irritate it and do things that help you reduce stress !

Abreva is the best OTC medication for it. I use to get a perscription from my dentist for cold sores. You could call and inquire about it

Between the medication, I would try pure essential oils or even get some lysine, which they make in a chapstick and also as a supplement. Also yoga or Pilates, or as in my case, kickboxing to relieve some stress.

You could try asking your doctor to switch you to valtrex instead- its three times a day dosing instead of 5 and it is proven to be more effective than acyclovir. just a thought- might stop it in its tracks!

It hurts like ALL GET OUT but the fastest way I have ever cured a cold sore was by applying rubbing alcohol, ice it, and then salt it. Oooohhh it hurts so bad to do but I usually have them gone in 4 days max

Abreva is the only thing that works for me. I’ve tried some of the essential oils and they didn’t do much. Abreva seemed to work better. I’m going to be so nervous in the time leading up to the wedding about getting one so I will probably end up getting one. 🤦🏼‍♀️

My boss swears by Valtrex but you have to take it ASAP after feeling that “tingle”. Hope it goes away soon :/

Keep spoons in the freezer ans hold them on it as much as you can until the spoon warms up. I reas cold helps keep the cells from multiplying and they dont get as big. This helps on mine. I also take lysine every day to keep from getting them and I do think it helps. We will see when my wedding gets here I hope I don't get one.

I’ve had cold sores for my whole life and also take medication for them and I have never found a quick cure. My favorite home remedy thoug is peppermint essential oil. It seemed to help better than pretty much anything else. Good luck!
