10 days and everything is Awful

Julie, on February 18, 2020 at 8:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
Things are falling apart. Wedding is 29th and my caterer FINALLY got back to me with the final bill...and it's 4k OVER his quote. It's too late to get another caterer (and the nonrefundable deposit would make up the difference even if there WAS time. FH just texted me frantically, his wedding band is TOO BIG. I'm still waiting for Sean to pick out the ceremony song to walk into AS WELL AS his mother/son dance.

What's next?? My dress was tight at my fitting last weekend. I'm just ready to cry

I am sorry and why is the caterer charging $4K over original quote? Could you remove some food items to lower the cost. The wedding band can be resized...it is ok. These are some bumps on the road to a beautiful day and you are stressed (rightfully so) but the day will fly by and you will remember the good moments and the best part...marrying your soul mate.

Nothing changed between when we got the quote and when I got the final. It's bull...stuff. My mom is so stressed too, and I don't know how I'm going to find that money in 10 days.

Thank you though. I just need soothing words, lol. I'm so on edge.

It is a big day and an important day so it is natural to be stressed especially when a large bill comes at you. I would really call and argue that and ask what can be down to lower the bill. Sorry that happened. I would be livid.

Did you sign a contract with this caterer?? That’s BS! They shouldn’t be able to raise the price by 4K less than 2 weeks in advance!

Contract was signed last August! I just can't do anything about it. I already argued them down by 2k, but it's too short notice to do anything!

Was the price mentioned in the contract you signed? If so they can’t just change it like that

It was 12k now it's 16k. Paid a nonrefundable deposit and then stuff was just added, but my mom doesn't want to take away the table service...but I feel awful about the extra money

Oh, well if stuff was added that makes sense.

Is your mom paying for it? If not then you shouldn’t add something just because she says so

She is, but wine should NOT be 4k! Holy crap. And that's on top of the open bar!

I am so sorry! That has to be so stressful having such major hiccups so Close to your wedding. I would highly suggest beginning your mornings and ending your evenings with 20 minutes of meditation. It has seriously worked wonders for me in keeping the stress levels down. Also, remind yourself this.... no matter what, you are going to be simply beautiful to your FH when he sees you walking down the aisle. And you are going to be so in love and so excited to marry your best friend, that none of these things are going to matter to you at all. Everyone will eat. Everyone will have a great time. And at the end of the day, you will be married. Just take a deep breath & release all the negativity... everything is going to be OK!!

Yikes, that’s a lot! But if she’s happy to pay then why does it matter?

She’s already paid so much. She's willing to do it, but I feel so guilty about it. And she's not happy to pay it...but at this point, short of selling a kidney, I Don have the money. And the wine wasn't added last minute, it was part of the deal from the beginning. We kept asking for the total, and he kept saying that the amount wouldn't change. Suddenly, it has. It's gone up by 33%

Examine the bill with a fine tooth comb and compare it to your contract. Was their a service charge that you forgot about? My venue talked upfront with about tax and service fee adding 30% more.

If you’re concerned about his wedding band being too big, order one off amazon prime for like $10 that’s similar to it. No one will know and you can return it after the wedding!

May take out a small loan at the bank? Remember you will get some money from the wedding. It's crap that they changed it that much. You should pay by plate so only increase in price if you have more guests.
