Suggestions Post #3 - Beaches & Towns to Explore! Beaches: - Coronado Beach is definitely the most famous in the area. This will require you to drive over the big bridge from San Diego onto Coronado "Island". This is a beautiful beach with great views, but it can definitely get busy/crowded due to it's popularity, but definitely worth checking out. - Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. This is not a lounge and relax kind of beach, more of a hiking/exploring beach, but the views are absolutely breath-taking, especially at sunset. Towns/Areas to Explore: - Seaport Village at San Diego Marina. This is a fun, although touristy, area to walk along the marina, go through shops, and have some food. It's not my favorite place to explore in San Diego, but I always end up here lol it is a pleasant place for a stroll in the afternoon, and unique. - Gaslamp Quarter. There is not much shopping here as it's mostly restaurants and bars, but definitely a place to check out! It's the liveliest part of San Diego. - Balboa Park. This is my most favorite place in San Diego. It can be a bit confusing to navigate and find parking, but it is so worth checking out. Most of the museums are here (Natural History Museum, Museum of Photographic Arts, Museum of Man, Museum of Art, and the ever famous (and Free!) Botanical Building). The road that connects all of these museums is closed to street traffic and open to pedestrians only. The architecture is absolutely beautiful as well as the gardens & fountains found between the museums. You can easily spend an entire day here. There is also the Spreckles Outdoor Organ Pavilion (check the schedule to see if there is a performance when you're there), listening to this organ in person is just amazing; and free! You will also find the San Diego Zoo here in Balboa Park, which is also worth checking out. Again.... you can easily spend an entire day here, if not two! - Old Town San Diego can be fun to explore as well. This is definitely a bit touristy, but is a fun place to experience the blend of Western American & Mexican Cultures that are found all over Southern California.

Suggestions post #2 - Bar/Brewery Scene So, the brewery scene in San Diego is HUGE. And there are so many award-winning craft breweries in the area. It can be overwhelming and hard to choose who to visit. There is an area outside of downtown dubbed "North Park", there are multiple breweries in this area which is awesome, because you can devote a day to safely brewery hop as you can walk to multiples. These are our favorite breweries in North Park: - Pariah Brewing - San Diego Brewing Co - Eppig Brewing (These first 3 are actually all in the same building, super convenient!) - Belching Beaver Brewing - Mike Hess Brewing - Modern Times: Flavordome (I also recommend Tiger! Tiger! for some great food... they also have an amazing selection of craft beer, but their food is the real winner here & a good place to fuel up between brewery stops). If you're able to or willing to go for a little bit of a drive, and you're really into craft beer, taking a trip up to San Marco so Stone Brewing's World Bistro & Gardens. Their beer is some of the best on the west coast, and the brewery tour is amazing! Their food is also super tasty, and if you make the trek up to their brewery, you can fit in an afternoon at the San Diego Zoo: Wild Animal Park (which in my opinion, is better than the regular San Diego Zoo in downtown San Diego). For bars: - Prohibition in the Gaslamp Quarter. This is a fun speakeasy, with great live jazz music, awesome bartenders, and fun cocktails. You have to look for the unassuming Law Office Door and knock in order to be let in... although, most of the time there is a line of people waiting outside the Law Office Door trying to get in, so it's pretty obvious where it is lol. It's still fun though and hands down our favorite bar in San Diego. - Trailer Park After Dark. This bar is underground and literally looks like a trailer park inside. It's hilarious; they even serve your beer in a brown paper bag haha Definitely a unique experience - Starlite. This is a swanky bar with a more upscale atmosphere that would feel special for a honeymoon, although it is out of downtown, so you'd definitely have to Uber/Lyft there. - The Coin-Op. This is a fun place to get your drink on while playing some arcade games, all without bratty kids running around as it's 21+. We always end up coming here because it so much fun to play skeeball & PacMan drunk haha .... Now onto the next post with different suggestions for beaches & cities/towns....

That's great you'll be renting a car, it will make your trip so much easier haha just be patient with your drive from LA to San Diego; there is ALWAYS traffic between the two cities unfortunately. Some hotels I would recommend in San Diego would be: - Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina (this might be over your budget, I'm not sure). This hotel is located next to the Seaport Village, which is a fun place to walk along the harbor, see some street performers, go through some kitschy little shops, and have some food. - Marriott Courtyard San Diego Downtown. This hotel was recently renovated, so the rooms are very nice (we actually just stayed at this property last October for a weekend getaway). This hotel is far enough from the rowdy Gaslamp Quarter that you can enjoy some peace and quiet, but definitely close enough that you can easily walk into the Gaslamp for dinner & drinks. - Hotel Z Gaslamp Quarter. This hotel has fun yet comfortable decor and is more affordable, but still nice. It's in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, so there will be so much you can walk to, but it does get rowdy in the evenings, especially on weekends as this is where the majority of San Diego's bars are located. It's not a dangerous area, just loud. I've stayed at all of these properties before and have always had a good experience :) I'm going to do multiple posts for the different areas of things I suggest, that way you don't have just one massive post with everything in it lol hope you don't mind.

Hey Caitlin :) So frustrating there's no way to privately chat easily lol grrrr.... anyway, posting on each other's wall will have to do for now... First of all, October is a great time to be in Southern California. The majority of tourists are gone and the weather is perfect! It will probably still be very warm for you as NC is so much cooler that time of year, but for us used to temperatures over 100, October is great as it's usually in the 80s. If you're flying into LA, but ultimately spending the majority of your honeymoon in San Diego, will you be renting a car to do the drive or finding some other means of transportation (i.e. train, hopper flight, bus)? I suggest renting a car, because although San Diego is more compact than LA, there are still some places where having a car would be convenient, although I do know renting a car can end up being so darn pricey. San Diego is such a fun city with a variety of activities and places to see! What are some of your interests that you'd like to include in your honeymoon trip? (i.e. museums, art, unique towns for shopping, beaches, bars/breweries, etc.). Don't want to end up suggesting a bunch of things that have zero interest to you and your FH lol Also, in regards to hotel, are you looking for something with a great ocean view and a bit more expensive, or something a little more affordable in the midst of downtown San Diego with a "big city" feel?

Hi Caitlin, Yay, we're WW Friends! :) For your California Honeymoon, where were you thinking of going? San Diego, Palm Springs, LA, Central Coast (Santa Barbara/San Luis Obispo/Big Sur), San Francisco, Yosemite/Sequoia National Parks, Napa Valley, etc?
