    Perfect Wedding Venue

We loved using Shakespeare on the Hudson for our wedding weekend from Thursday - Sunday this July. Jason, the property manager, was so accommodating to our multiple visits to the venue before confirming our date, and was frequently in touch with us about how he could make sure the house was best prepped for our wedding weekend. The home comfortably slept 17 of our guests and everyone loved walking the grounds in the morning and swimming in the pool and hot tub. You can't go wrong with the expansive view of the Hudson River and stately features of the home's architecture and touches. We wish we could get married every month just to go back and spend more time in the house!

Our wedding was the best weekend of my life. The CURRENT staff (Bob, Dave, and company) were wonderful. We had worked with a previous property manager and she was a bit of a nightmare. Bob went above and beyond to rectify these issues. The staff made every effort to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Bob and Dave made themselves available to our guests 24 hours a day and popped in every now and then to check on us. Like ninjas, they would check the pool temperature, take out garbage, spot clean the grounds without us ever knowing. With these folks in place, this venue will succeed in hosting many more beautiful weddings.

A few important notes; the water is well water. This means it is treated in a specific way and the water has a sulphuric smell. This is not abnormal for this type of system, but can be a bit of a shock. YOU will not come out smell of sulphur, but the bathroom will. Get yourself some incense or scented candles. I promise you will want them. The house is gorgeous but RUSTIC. If you are looking for a ultra modern, white glove mansion with sleek amenities, this house is not for you. For us all of the charm outweighed any need for glossy accouterments. We had an easy to please, easy going crowd so this did not matter to us - if you are into the beauty of vintage, shabby chic, rustic country venues this is the place for you. You will need to bring in EVERYTHING. This may change as SOH becomes more popular but at the time of our wedding it was truly a DIY venue. They require you rent a toilet trailer, you will need to bring in catering, and ALL rentals, flowers, etc. You will probably want a golf cart to transport guests to and fro and there is no formal ‘parking’ or ‘valet’ - another reason for a golf cart.

Every single person at SOH was kind, helpful, and supportive. Our wedding day was extraordinary and we felt like we were in great hands the entire time.

Shakespeare on the Hudson is a spectactuclar place to have your wedding. We had 150 very happy guests and a great time was had by all. We set a tent set up on the lawn and had a sit down dinner and ceremony over looking the river. Then we moved the party to the pavillion where the music and dancing continued until 3 am. The home was very large and all were very comfortable. So nice to have this setting to merge our families. It was a perfect day and a wonderful night with friends and family.

Perfect Place for Our Family Reunion

Shakespeare on the Hudson was the perfect location for our family reunion. With thirty people ranging in age from eight months to mid seventies, we were a big and eclectic group, but the River Lodge met everyone's needs. Lots of space, a beautifully appointed house, plenty of big areas for congregating and socializing, an enormous lawn which was perfect for impromptu team sports, a fire pit for s'mores, and of course the beautiful Hudson River right there-- this house truly has it all. The kids had fun swimming in the pool outdoors and playing pool indoors, and the kitchen was big enough for many cooks at once. (One suggestion: the kitchen could use a couple of large cooking pots and large serving bowls). The walls are surprisingly thick-- noise traveled between the rooms right next to each other but not from one part of the house to another. Bob was quick to send Dave over to fix the kitchen door that was stuck, and he was friendly and fixed it quickly. We loved being there in the summertime and took full advantage of swimming and kayaking in the river, hiking the trails, and chasing fireflies in the woods, but this house seems ideally suited to every season. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the house, but the last night we ate at the Stewart House's River Garden, a beautiful B&B and restaurant that is part of Shakespeare on the Hudson. Kim was very helpful in accommodating our group and arranging for a tasty buffet that met our food requests and pleased all age groups. Everybody agreed that we should have our next reunion at Shakespeare on the Hudson again!

I put a deposit down to have my wedding at this venue, but I ended up winning a TV wedding package. The property manager was kind enough to let us use our deposit for our 1 year anniversary get away.

As a corporate event planner, I was honestly impressed with the staff and the warmth and responsiveness of the property manager Kat McElroy. She was like a guardian angel the entire time we were planning our wedding and even when things changed at the last minute.

The property itself is simply beautiful! Breathe-taking views and the house is charming and well decorated with a rustic feel. It's quite spacious and we had a group of people come with us to make memories that will last a life time.

There are three things to note about this property -- the property uses well water, which is harmless but quite stinky. Bring lots of incense and scented bubble bath. Also, this is a DIY wedding venue, you will need to outsource all supplies; However the property manage has a really helpful list of local and reliable vendors that are familiar with the property. Last but not least, this is place is a wedding photographers dream come true, there are so many wonderful places to take amazing photos.

We had our wedding at Shakespeare On The Hudson. We stayed for 4 days in the two houses. It was wonderful. The location is beautiful and picture perfect. Everybody was very helpful and easy to communicate with. We had our ceremony at the waterside, our reception in the pavilion and the diner and the party in the tent (we rented) in front of the house. Our event manager was very helpful and everything we wanted to do was no problem.
Just to keep in mind that the house is an older house. For us this was no problem and we loved the style and its charisma.

    Vendor Unprofessional

I sent an email requesting information. I took the time to include the date ranges that I was hoping for, the number of guests, ect. I request a price list and to arrange a visit.

The vendor's email response seemed like it was written by someone that was either drunk, high, or a child. There was no capitalization and no punctuation. It was 12 words long. The only thing that was communicated was the price (2.5k per night with 3 nights required).

For a venue that provides nothing and makes 7.5k per rental as the venue fee alone, you would expect them to be a little professional. Real (see: better) wedding venues charge less and respond as if they respect me as a potential customer. Hard Pass.

    Unprofessional, uncommunicative, possible scam.

Visited place last year and loved it, placed a deposit for a wedding on 08/27/2022.
10 days ago, I received an email letting me know that they were cancelling the wedding. I have yet to receive the refund of my deposit, and have not received a response on 2 emails, 1 text and 1 phone call asking for clarification on the cancellation, when the deposit will be refunded, and if they will help with the rescheduling fees that all of my separate vendors are now charging me.
