My husband and I were married at Glacier Point in October of 2016. Dan is a very kind, knowledgable and experienced photographer. He was with us for most of the wedding day and had access to some beautiful spots for taking photos. In retrospect, my husband and I wish that we had gone with a different photographer for the following reasons, but Dan would be a great choice if you have different priorities than we did.
1. Be aware that you will not own your photos or receive digital copies without a hefty extra fee. We went with the most expensive package and received 200 photos in hardcopy form. To order reprints, the prices are very steep (for our budget). For example, a 4 by 6 or 5 by 7 will cost $10 for each copy. An 8 by 11 will cost $20 for a reprint. We have found that we cannot afford to buy reprints or enlargements.
2. We knew this before we booked, but you will only receive 100-200 photos according to the plan you choose. We found that although we received 200 photos, most shots had multiple copies, so we really ended up with less than 100 shots. We found that Dan missed out on a lot of opportunities in our opinion. We had to scrounge for photos from all of our guests and actually found that our favorite photos were mostly ones that our friends took. There is no doubt that Dan is an excellent photographer when it comes to posed photos, however. The quality of the photos you will receive are fantastic, but the variety is lacking.
3. Part of our disappointment was due to the fact that Dan doesn't move around much. Almost all of the ceremony photos are from the same position. My face is showing, while none of the shots show my husbands face. We think we would have preferred a photographer that moved around a lot to get more of shots and more angles.
Bottom line: Dan is a great choice if you only want a few posed photos and don't mind paying his prices for any reprints you want, but not if you would prefer to own your photos and get lots of shots.
