Willy left his home country of Spain in 2011 to go to Mexico City, where he worked for local entertainment photo agencies as a photojournalist. His next big move was to the United States in 2016, with a job for the Associated Press, the largest news agency worldwide.

In 2023, Willy and his wife Patricia Ricca opened Willy Sanjuan Photography Studio, a new one-stop studio in one of the most premium locations in the heart of Sherman Oaks, CA.
