Although we were generally happy with the food itself, we had a miserable time working with this vendor. Perhaps it is because you are forced to use them if you want to have your reception on campus, but they certainly do not seem to know much about customer service. Our contact was very difficult to schedule appointments with--apparently he was the only one we could meet with, even though he wasn't the only person in the catering office--which was very difficult for us since we were coming from out of town. In our first phone conversation, he laid on a pretty thick sales pitch telling me what the "gold" and basically most expensive options were first and not letting me get a word in edgewise. When we met with him in person, he was even worse, making us feel very cheap for not wanting all of the bells and whistles. I met with him alone for the second meeting (my then fiance was there for the first), and he was even more disrespectful. The meeting was specifically to discuss the layout of the room, which he was unwilling to discuss on the phone or over e-mail/fax. Despite this being the whole purpose of our meeting, he was very impatient with me when I asked to have all of the tables mapped out. He did the first few on a computer program, and then hastily penciled in the general idea of the other tables---only at my request---on the print out, which he did not keep for himself. When I e-mailed him closer to the wedding to confirm a few details, he got back to me a week or so later asking me additional questions about matters we had already resolved.
As I mentioned, the food itself was generally good, but not great. I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. All in all, we were happy we had the reception on campus, despite all the drama with catering, because it turned out to be so beautiful. My advice, however, if you chose to do the same is to try to work with someone other than the director of University Catering. I'm not sure if that's possible since he seemed to be very involved in every event---he was even serving drinks at our reception---but I'd at least give it a shot.
