History

The history of The Sutherland dates back to 1786. This is when Colonel Ransom Sutherland, an officer in the Fourth Regiment, North Carolina Continental Line, and a member of the Council of State, bought the property from John Mederais. Since that time, the property has had several owners, and over the years, additions were constructed to complete the final home as it stands today. The present owners have made it their mission to preserve and respect the unique history of the estate. They have blended state-of-the-art modern technology with the old style and charm of the estate to create a pleasurable wedding venue.
