The moment I set eyes on The Hinterland I knew it was where I wanted to get married. Kristyn has turned this quaint, rustic barn into a magical, sparkling wedding venue. The lighting gives off such a romantic and intimate vibe. The grounds, surrounded by trees and the CT Horseguard, provide a unique and beautiful setting for your ceremony. We were lucky enough to find this venue early to book an autumn wedding! We were able to make the barn and reception area our own and I was able to create my perfect wedding.

Kristyn was lovely to work with. She was quick to respond and helped make my wedding dreams a reality. The day of there were a few setbacks that Kristyn helped my vendors solve and when she saw the slightest bit of worry and stress on my face, she made sure I had everything I needed and reassured me all would be okay. Everything was better than okay and we had the most perfect wedding day.

I also have to mention, The Bar, which is the bar service through this venue, had quick, professional and talented bartenders. Our guests had a great time!

The Hinterland staff was helpful and responsive throughout my planning process. Kristyn saved me from stressing so much, she has an eye for detail and helped me pull everything together and kept me at ease leading up to and through our wedding on 10/6/23. I went with their vendor recommendations for food, florals and DJ and they were perfect. They had an already established relationship with those vendors and experience on site which made the process even more seamless. The space is so well decorated already I just accentuated it with some of my own crafted items. I added on a tent last minute due to rain and it only sprinkled but was worth it for my guests to have the extra outside space with games I had. I am so glad we had the hinterland to create memories we will hold forever of the one of the best days of my life!!

The Hinterland was the perfect venue for our small June wedding! We couldn't have been happier with the aesthetics of the venue or their flexibility in letting us creating our own unique setup for the event. For a small wedding of around 50 guests, this venue is well worth it's price. Thanks again for an unforgettable day!

Cannot recommend this place enough!! My fiancé and I had our Jack & Jill party here in May and it was the perfect place for it. All of our guests were raving about the barn and absolutely loved it! We had plenty of space for music, food, dancing and yard games. The hinterland is rustic but still so elegant and you can’t go wrong with this beautiful venue for any type of event.

The Hinterland is the perfect location for a beautiful, laid back, and fun event. All of my guests loved everything, inside and out. We had 80 people. We setup yard games outside and a dance floor inside so there was something for everyone. The location was the perfect place for pictures as well. The price is so affordable and everyone I dealt with were so helpful, nice, and prompt. I would suggest this location to anyone that asks!

The rustic simplicity, the space, the owners, the flexibility, the decor, the responsiveness….I could go on and on!!! My husband and I just had the most fantastic wedding at The Hinterland, HIGHLY recommend!!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at The Hinterland. Kristyn and her crew did an absolutely amazing job organizing and keeping our wedding as breezy and stress free as possible! And most importantly she was super accommodating to my self and my bridal party and our needs and wants for the day! I could not have dreamt of a better venue. My wedding had 10 guests, but the space is so diverse that it felt like it was meant for us. The decorations alone they have for the barn is stunning. I didn't feel I needed to do much more decorating. Kristen was great to work with providing options, was flexible, and more than helpful. The Hinterland is truly is a diamond. I highly recommend any event here!!!

When we found The Hinterland in early 2022, we were over the moon! We decided to book for 2024. A couple weeks after we booked, we unfortunately had to cancel. I contacted the owner to explain the circumstances and notified her we had to cancel. We were canceling over 2 years in advance and offered to assist in finding a couple to book our date, but The Hinterland would allow us to downscale the event to a different date, hold the date for another event or cancel. At that time, we did not have another event that the date could be used for. Our original date was booked with 65 guests. The Hinterland let us know that if we downscaled, we would use the funds paid for the services as long as there are not additional guests. If we downscaled, we may be able to just use the deposit with no additional payments, but it all depended on the final plans, with timing and guest count. If we did a ceremony only with 25 guests we wouldn’t owe anything additional from the deposit we already paid ($3,728.35). Due to the circumstances, I asked The Hinterland is we would transfer our date and offered to support finding a couple to take our place at which time they said this would not be allowed. Due to the circumstances and being booked in far out in the most popular wedding month, I was confident we would be able to provide support In transferring our date. However, the owners refused to allow this or refund even a portion of our deposit. Despite the contract stating that the deposit and any additional payments were non-refundable we were hoping for some flexibility due to the time between cancelling and the event date along with the conversation we had with the owner during the tour about cancelling.Additionally, we felt that having a ceremony only for $3,728.35 did not make sense. During the tour, we asked what would happen due to needing to cancel (due to Covid or other reasons) and it was stated that we would be able to be refunded if it was far in advance (and we had others present during this conversation). To book The Hinterland, they require you to pay 50% of the ENTIRE cost – this cost includes ½ of the total bar package and ½ of the actual venue (more than the other venues we toured) meaning we lost $3,728.35 dollars. Changing our plans already was disappointing, but this lack of flexibility due to unforeseen circumstances and what was verbally communicated to us greatly impacted the excitement of getting married.
