Only 17 miles north of downtown Philadelphia, on top of a hill sits The Highlands. This elegant, two-centuries-old Georgian style mansion is surrounded by 44 acres of rolling hills and beautifully landscaped gardens. The Highlands offers a unique setting for your special day. Completed in 1796, the mansion features fifteen foot ceilings and bright spacious rooms in addition to a 2 acre formal garden and the ambiance of the surrounding estate.
This wedding or party takes place in four rooms on the first floor connected by an airy hallway. The total area is 2,441 square feet. There are three powder rooms on the first floor. A beautiful staircase at the end of the hall is perfect for the bride to descend for her wedding ceremony, or for the newly married couple to greet their guests. On the second floor, two rooms are available for the bridal party only.
Two covered terraces facing the woods and the gardens may be used to entertain your guests. Weather permitting, your ceremony and cocktails may be held in the garden. The mansion can also accommodate a wedding ceremony and 120 for a sit down meal or 150 for a cocktail or stations party.
The rental of The Highlands is for five hours and we only have one event a day. Chairs and tables are available at a no additional charge. There is parking for 70 cars but valet parking is recommended for over one hundred people. This beautiful mansion could be the place of your dreams. We hired Dana as our day of coordinator, and I cannot recommend her enough. Our day ran so smoothly, and I know it was because of all her hard work! She is kind and gentle, but keeps everything moving as it needs to. She is professional in her work, but also cares about the people celebrating!
A Beautiful Place For A Wedding
Most Beautiful Venue with the Most Helpful Team
Dana, the manager, was incredibly helpful. We were originally supposed to be married in October of 2020. When COVID changed all our plans, Dana was incredibly supportive as we navigated through multiple rescheduling and changes. Our email thread is probably about 100 messages long and not once did Dana make me feel like I was bothering her or that my questions were too much. She is a large reason why I kept the hope that our dream wedding would actually happen and her support was a large factor in deciding to go forward with the wedding instead of just canceling it after one too many disappointments. Dana is amazing and you want her on your team.
In addition to all of her help leading up to the day of the wedding, Dana was great the day of. We had to move our ceremony location last minute because of a sudden shower and didn’t have enough time to enact our original rain plan. Dana came up with a beautiful solution that everyone loved even more than the original ceremony location. What could have been super stressful was easy and pain-free. She was unobtrusive the entire day, so when I got a text with 100 photos and videos that she had taken over the course of the wedding the day after, I was amazed and delighted.
I cannot recommend the Highlands Historical enough. The grounds are gorgeous and filled with history and the level of support is unparalleled.

Note that there is no large ballroom-style space in the mansion. The space for your event is separated into separate rooms with fireplaces, a beautiful open foyer, a long, narrowish sunroom, covered patio and of course the gorgeous gardens. Plus on the up-side, you can bring your own beverages, which makes a great opportunity for cost savings.
It worked out perfectly for us as we wanted a space that was historic and unique but not super-formal and opulent. We also liked breaking up the seating into separate rooms so there was space for everyone to have a seat when they wanted one and to make sure the folks who are more hard of hearing could still have conversations without getting drowned out by dance music.
As with other historic sites, there are some restrictions to using the space...no candles in the mansion (we used battery-operated tealights), no tents outside, that sort of thing. But on the plus side, their rental coordinator, Sophia was super-helpful in helping us with vendor ideas and details. We fell in love with the site on our first visit there and it made the perfect location for our wedding.
