Roy was absolutely AMAZING to work with. We got married on Block Island and we wanted to ensure that we chose someone who could bake not only a beautiful cake but also handle all of the logistics of getting the cake to the island. Everything went smoothly day of, things couldn't haven't gone better. Everyone said it was the best cake they had ever tasted, the peanut butter and chocolate is the best thing you will ever have!

My husband and I agree that the wedding cake Roy McGill created for us was the most delicious cake we’ve ever tasted. Our guests raved about how scrumptious it was. Roy is a great guy and was extremely generous with his time and in accommodating our requests. He offered eight delicious cake flavor and filling combinations at our initial tasting. We decided that our ideal cake would be sophisticated combinations representative of our favorite desserts. Roy graciously invited us to a second tasting of different cake and filling combinations and offered expert advice to help us make our decision. Roy used the highest quality ingredients for two gourmet combinations: chocolate cake, ganache, fresh cherries and kirsch; and dense sponge cake with rum, pastry crème and fresh berries. His charge per slice was in line or less expensive than other Newport area cake makers. We chose a simple white fondant with Swiss dots and beaded edges for the exterior, but Roy has many photos that demonstrate his expertise in creating wedding cakes with intricate designs and decorations. We highly recommend Roy and are happily looking forward to his recreation of our wedding cake on our first anniversary.

Roy far and away makes the best cakes we've ever tasted. We had 3 flavors for our wedding, lemon with fresh blueberries, almond with fresh strawberries and chocolate with chocolate ganache, YUM! His prices are inline with or cheaper then all the other bakers we looked. He was great to work with and worth the visit!

Roy makes the best tasting cake I've ever had. The decorating was cool and funky, just what we wanted. Check out Roy's creations you won't be disappointed.

Roy baked us the most delicious wedding cake and pies for our dessert bar! We wanted something unique in flavor for our cake with a simple look on the outside. That is exactly what we got! Everyone LOVED the cake and the pies and they were a huge hit. He also is affordable which was really important to us! We shopped around and found he had the best deals and the tastiest cakes and desserts :)

My fiance (now husband) and I set out to try as many as we could in a week - 7 cake places in total. And Roy's cakes topped them all. They were moist and flavorful. By far, the best buttercream frosting we tried. And every flavor was great - not just one or two stand outs but all of them. He also did three things that none of the other bakers did: (1) He gave us slices of cake with the fillings in them. Not fillings separate from slices of cake. Not cupcakes that may or may not have the same ratio of frosting and filling to cake. But actual pieces of cake with filling in them. (2) He gave us a box to take home the leftovers and share with my family. Major brownie points (cake points??) with my parents! (3) When we wanted to try another flavor, he offered to make us another small cake for us to try. We ended up choosing it for our wedding cake - coconut cream - as well as the almond raspberry from our original tasting. We wanted a simple design for the cake - swiss dot with ribbon to match our decor - so I if you are looking for an elaborate design, I cannot speak to that. I can only tell you that the flavors and textures of Roy's wedding cakes at Sweet Sophistications were great and I couldn't be happier with our choice in cake. It was as good if not better on our wedding day as when we tried it at our tasting.

Roy has the best cupcakes ever. We had the carrot cake, chocolate ganche, lemon blueberry, and the vanilla caramel. Everyone loved them and one of my friends tried them all. They were moist and delicious. I highly recommend him. They looked so pretty too. Just call him many times and he will finally call you back! Go with Roy.

Roy was great to work with, made me a little nervous at first with the lack of call backs but once I understood that's how these "artists" work I got over it. Cake definetly made up for it. Delicious! Totally worth it!
