After three decades of building an all-encompassing repertoire, the SMSQ can perform Bach to Joplin or Guns N' Roses to the Beatles. Michael Albert has performed throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe as a soloist for many orchestras and chamber ensembles on oboe, recorder, baroque violin, and as a countertenor. He has explored several musical styles including baroque, contemporary, celtic, and jazz. On baroque violin and

as a countertenor, Michael plays and sings with Miami groups Seraphic Fire and the Firebird Ensemble, and New England groups Ecclesia, Tableau, St. Mary's Schola, and Blue Hill Bach. Michael plays fiddle and whistle with the Beggar Boys celtic band. Michael also subs principal oboe with the Portland and Bangor Symphonies in Maine, and the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra in Massachusetts, and plays jazz oboe with Initial Ascent, a Toronto-based band.

Michael also composes and performs for film scores with Maine composer Jan Broberg Carter. Their scores include the new Hollywood film 'Nocturnal Agony', a short 'The Man With The Spying Glass', and on the PBS documentaries 'Sweet Ambition', 'The Polygamist's Daughter', and 'Swift Justice'. He collaborated with Nashville star, Kathy Mattea on the recording 'A Carolina Christmas at the Biltmore' for NPR in 2009.

Michael is on the faculty at Colby College as oboe instructor and early music coach and teaches at the Portland Conservatory of Music in Portland, Maine. Music CD's include from the Beggar Boys; "A Celtic Christmas", "Songs and Dances of the Puritans", "The Earl's Chair", and "A Beggar Boys Christmas" (just finished for the 2012 holiday season!) and from Initial Ascent; "Sentences from the Womb" and "Out this Window".

Jen Reeber has a BS in Music Education from the University of Southern Maine and has been a K-2 General music teacher since 1997. She has been a member of the Southern Maine String Quartet since 1992.
Before moving to Maine in 1990, she attended the University of West Florida and played cello in the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, The Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Okaloosa Walton Symphony and Pensacola Opera Orchestra. Jen has two children and 5 grandchildren.

Violin

Kate Gray grew up in Harpswell, Maine, and has music degrees from Yale University (1986) and the
University of Southern Maine (1994). She taught music in public and private schools in Waterville and
Skowhegan, Maine, from 1994 to 2005, as well as private violin and viola lessons from 1994 to the
present. She has performed with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Maine Music Society, the Maine
Chamber Ensemble, the Maine State Ballet Orchestra, and the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra, as well as
in many musical theater productions throughout southern Maine, for various churches, and at weddings
and other events for 30 years. Since 2017, Kate has worked at the Bowdoinham Community School as a
paraprofessional, providing classroom support in reading, writing, and math, and continues to teach
private violin lessons at her home. She lives in Bowdoinham with her husband and teenage daughter and
loves to play music of many genres for weddings and other special events.
