Museum of Us
About
The Saint Francis Chapel is located in the heart of scenic Balboa Park on the south side of the California Plaza, across the street from the main entrance to the Museum of Us. Built in 1915 as part of the Panama-California Exposition, the Chapel's features evoke stark mission simplicity with its tile floor, ceiling of wooden beams, and bench seating. By contrast, the Chapel boasts an elaborately decorated altar which includes gold leaf and meticulously crafted figures of the Virgin and Child in the center, flanked on the left by Saint Francis Xavier and on the right by San Diego de Alcalá.
The Chapel is non-denominational and hosts services of all faiths. We welcome all couples to host their weddings here. There is wheelchair access to the balcony only.
Please note while we have held events and receptions in the Museum of Us, this is currently suspended due to COVID. Ceremonies at Saint Francis Chapel remain open.
