Swing open the massive wooden front doors, inlaid with intricate stained glass, step past the threshold from the tiled floor of the foyer, and enter a space of breathtaking old world beauty. Family owned and operated by the Ed, Mary Ann, John and Suzanne Graf since 1995, this is Pittsburgh’s Grand Hall at The Priory.
Whether it’s the Grand Hall’s rolling barrel vaults and arches, soaring 80 feet into the air, its massive supporting columns, topped with gold-leafed Corinthian capitals, or the intricate, gold-plated stencil-work gracing the ceiling, the Grand Hall’s physical space inspires a sense of wonder.
Yet it is not just the grandeur of the physical space that sets the Grand Hall apart: it is also its sense of place and time. Built as St. Mary’s Church in 1854 by German immigrants, the Grand Hall was for years a hub of the German, Swiss and Austrian community in the “Deutschtown” section of Pittsburgh. Restored in 1995 and re-opened as a banquet facility, the Grand Hall and the adjacent Priory Hotel (the former St. Mary’s Priory [or Monastery) is now a keystone of the redevelopment of Deutschtown and of Pittsburgh’s North Side.
The value of a beautiful space is diminished if the quality of the food and service do not match the quality of the room. The Grand Hall’s food and service are unrivaled in the Pittsburgh region. Chefs Michael Henny and Pete Phillipy have more than 40 years of combined service in kitchens ranging from the Hyehold Restaurant to Nemacolin Woodlands resort, and consistently serve world class food. General Manager Rebecca Lazeration, with more than 15 years devoted to banquet and event management, ensures that linens are crisp, silverware is polished, and that the staff is well-trained to accommodate any guest need.
Centrally located across the Allegheny River from downtown Pittsburgh, with Interstate 279 and State Route 28 just blocks away, the Grand Hall is easily accessible from all points of the compass. Pittsburgh’s suburbs are just minutes away, and even drives from other counties are short and easy.

A wonderful venue for an off-wedding season date
We loved working with The Grand Hall for our Nov. 16 wedding. We did the "Fall For Love" package that comes with November weddings and felt we got every cent of what we paid in return for a wonderful and seamless event. We added a few add-ons that were a bit pricey but worth it to bring up the elegance and romance in the room (the light wall and lit up birch trees that are usually not part of the November package). Would 100% recommend Courtney (event coordinator) and Zach (day-of coordinator) as they were responsive, helpful, accommodating, and helped keep us calm in all the craziness! The event was beautiful and we will remember it forever!Sent on 11/25/2019

Perfect wedding set up
The hall is beautiful for a ceremony and is quickly turned into a great reception hall while guests are able to go outside in the courtyard. Working with the team at the hall was great and they were very responsive. We were accommodated well for being out-of-state and got a lot of compliments from our guests about the uniqueness of the venue.Sent on 06/27/2019

The Priory's Grand Hall was an amazing venue for a wedding. We did the Winter White Wedding package, and it was truly incredible. I worked directly with Sara Lynn from the beginning. She is a true talent, and amazing at her job. My family and I can be very overwhelming (lots of questions, lots of involvement, etc.) and she was patient, responsive and helpful. When we were making all of our final detail selections, she literally rolled up her sleeves, moved furniture around, showed me pictures, etc. I truly felt at ease on the big day thanks to her. The Grand Hall is a beautiful space. We had a reasonable sized wedding ~120 guests, and it was perfect. It's a larger room so I was concerned about being too big, and the sound not picking up, but none of that was a concern. It felt intimate, romantic, and every single one of our guests raved that it was one of the nicest wedding venues they had attended. The food was delicious, and I felt like the costs were very reasonable. We had our ceremony and reception onsite - would HIGHLY recommend for both. It looked so pretty set up for the ceremony and was transformed very quickly for the reception. Sara Lynn also made the day of - completely stress free. She handled everything, got me drinks, food when i didn't have a chance to eat, etc. Overall I couldn't have asked for better service or a more beautiful place to make memories in. Thank you sooo much!Sent on 04/14/2017
It's been standing in Pittsburgh for so many years. Now, along with the Priory, it is a destination that is so unique for Pittsburgh. The staff is amazing to work with with. Heather is a doll and so knowledgeable. Take a look...it could be the perfect fit.
Always a great pleasure to work with the TOP NOTCH staff here.
Grand and wonderful place for a wedding. We have enjoyed many times the pleasure of servicing brides at the Grand Hall.
