I wish I could give no starts

I usually don’t write reviews, but I felt compelled to warn fellow brides. I had my wedding makeup trial done by Kristina Blaney. I live out of the region and had booked her several months before I was able to get my trial done. I paid a 50% deposit to hold my wedding date for myself plus 8 other women in my family/ bridal party ($700).
I got to the trial and she started by taking my hair down to “see what she was working with.” I informed her this was a makeup trial and she tried to cover her tracks by saying something along the lines of “she needed to see how my hair frames my face.” I’m wearing my hair up so that was irrelevant. She then “color matched” me on my face, which was very dark. Next, she realized she didn’t have any makeup wipes and had to sent her husband to Walmart. I had to wait 25 minutes with nothing getting accomplished for him to return with the wipes! When we finally started, she didn’t ask me for any inspiration pictures. I did tell her I wanted to look natural and my biggest concern was to cover my under eyes. She didn’t prep my skin at all and no attention was paid to my under eyes. She also informed me she “doesn’t do eyebrows or eyeliner.” How one can consider themselves a makeup artist and not provide these basics is beyond me. This was also not disclosed in the contract. The entire make up application took approximately 15 minutes. When I was turned around, I was mortified. My lips were extremely dark, and I had dark eyeshadow all the way up to my brow line, opposite of what I consider natural. My bronzer was not blended to the point where I could see a clear line across my entire forehead and neck. I politely tried to be more blended and natural looking. She assured me that I was blended and did not blend me again. I showed her an inspo pic and she told me the girl in the photo was “much paler than me” and that it wouldn’t look good. I’m Irish and very pale myself, so was very thrown off by that comment. Rather than starting fresh, she just layer more makeup over my lips and eyes. It truly looked bad. The lips were so sloppy. I decided to go in another direction and asked for some money back from my 50% deposit. She declined, which is understandable since I signed a contract, but given the circumstances And lack of professionalism, I thought it was more than fair to ask. I’m now $800 in the hole and doing my own makeup. Learn from my mistakes and RUN, don’t walk away from this business!!!
