Lory State Park was a dream setting

Lory State Park was the perfect setting for our wedding. We reserved Soldier's Canyon which was under construction so we actually used the Eltuck North mowed field. The rangers were super helpful with reserving the site and they made sure the site was mowed. We had beautiful views of the foothills and the horsetooth bay. It was my dream wedding

Lory State Park is right above Horsetooth Reservoir and it was a beautiful spot to get married. I wouldn't have traded it for the world. They sprayed off goose poopy picnic tables for us, and they brought the generator down for us. They allowed us to have over 100 people in their picnic area, and they were very cooperative and kind about the reservation. The scenery there is absolutely gorgeous and helped to make great pictures and very happy guests. I am so glad we decided to get married in a little valley in the foothills.

You get what you pay for and do not expect organized instructions

I absolutely WOULD NOT RECOMMEND Lory State Park for a wedding venue location. I understand that Lory is a state park, not designed as a wedding venue, but they are NOT organized enough to provide wedding services. Throughout the entire wedding process, they would not tell us all the information and be upset when we didn't do what they wanted. The only thing they were consistent on was giving us different answers to the same question because each time we talked to them we would talk to a different person. For example (one of many), they ask on the wedding application if you would like to host a rehearsal at Lory (additional fees apply). What they do not tell you is that you need to fill out another application for the rehearsal to reserve the time for it.

Another issue is that they say on the application the capacity for each site. We reserved Soldier Canyon which says ON THE APPLICATION that the site has a 250 person and 50 vehicle capacity. What we didn't find out until the week before the wedding is that they don't actually mark off those 50 vehicle spots and so you better just hope that other guests at the park don't take up all the parking spaces by the sites.

They also were upset with us the day of our rehearsal because we had 2 trucks parked down by the Soldier Canyon pavilion to unload decorations. The first ranger moved the sign saying no vehicles were allowed down that road when we arrived without us even asking him to, but when we left a different ranger came down and incredibly rudely chewed us out because apparently one of the vehicles was parked where they had planted new grass. There was no sign or any indication that there was new grass, and in fact it looked EXACTLY like the road the other vehicle was parked on. As I said earlier, these were just a couple of the issues we ran into while coordinating our event there. Inconsistent answers, not enough information provided up front, and rude workers made having our ceremony here more trouble than it was worth.
