Originally from Charleston, Oregon, Krishna Muirhead, began photographing in 1996 in Portland, Oregon with a borrowed camera, half a dozen library books and the desire to be a photographer. Having no formal photography or art training meant many years of personal study and hands-on practice with a number of experts and masters to learn this extraordinary and extremely difficult craft. The ongoing learning process has involved photojournalism, studio assistant and second photographer positions. Each situation brought challenges and valuable experience, but most importantly, growth in search of a personal photographic vision. Eventually, it became apparent that photographing people provides prime opportunities for Krishna to fuse his photojournalism and studio experience with the on-going drive to create amazing images.
While living in Belo Horizonte, Brazil from 1997 till 2008, Krishna gained a huge amount of photo knowledge, especially from 1998 until 2001 as a substitute photographer for the Estado de Minas, the largest daily in the state,(75,000 per day). There, Krishna saw real, under-the-gun newsroom and street photojournalism experience covering the principal sections: police beat, sports, politics, economy, automotive and local news. In addition, it provided his first real contact with capture, manipulation and transport of digital images, skills that eventually developed into one of the core elements of his creative work.
Starting in 1999 with a basic assistant position at Studio Fotosínteses, studio experience has consistently helped Krishna develop and improve valuable photographic and lighting skills. Later, the lead assistant position at Studio Lift brought even more extensive controlled lighting and group production experience influencing other areas of his photography.
From 2000 through 2004, Krishna worked as a 2nd photographer for Mariel Pelli Atelier Studio Fotográfico, the premier high-end wedding studio in the state. This ongoing experience was an amazing chance to become familiar with the crucial moments of the ceremony while learning to look for unusual images.
Returning to Oregon in 2008, Krishna continues to expand his photographic experiences while focusing on people, mostly in portraits or during live events of all kinds. This transition included classes at ICP in New York to fine tune Photoshop and Camera raw workflow.
Krishna currently uses professional digital equipment to supply high quality images to a wide range of private and public clients for print and digital use. Print use includes books, magazines, newspapers, catalogues, folders, fliers, press releases and other marketing and promotional material. Furthermore, stunning albums with dynamic and modern designs can be individually produced for each client. Digital work also includes viewable online galleries.

Krishna is an exceptional photographer. He went above and beyond for our wedding photos -- they came out more beautiful than I could have imagined. Krishna has a rare gift that other wedding photographers don't have: he was able to capture the candid emotions of those at the celebration, just like it came out of Time Magazine or National Geographic. Through his love of portraiture he snapped not just incredible photos of the bride and groom but also individual shots of the entire wedding party. The care and detail he puts into his photography bumps his work into a higher category of fine art. He organized the photos and presented them to us in a neat little digital package (which was very handy). I later hired him to do my professional photos and he did an equally fantastic job. Aside from him being a stand up person, I can't say enough good things about his work.

I loved working with Krishna. He is hilarious and calming and dynamic. He is fun to work with and knows how to find the shot you didn't even know you wanted!! I was ambivalent about even having a photographer because I don't enjoy having my photo taken, and he put me and the groom at ease immediately! If you are looking for an artistic and unique collection of quality photographs, I definitely recommend considering Krishna!

Krishna was our wedding photographer for an event for 110 guests in my father's front yard in central Vermont in August. It poured rain all night and that morning the ground flooded beneath the tent and threatened to quicksand us all. In addition to being cheerful and helpful Krishna had the unique ability to fit himself seamlessly into the events of the day. His pictures capture the feeling of the day as well as my own memory. I loved that the photos didn't end up looking air brushed or fake and that my husband and I had candid expressions revealing total joy.
He elevates snapshots to the level of art in that his photos find beautiful aspects of the place and time that I might not have realized are beautiful and then offers them up in a perfect composition.
I am so grateful for our wedding photos. We adore Krishna!
