My Story

When I was 5 years old in kindergarten, I had mandatory Italic handwriting classes. It was not easy - I was just a little girl, learning to read and how to write, but these classes shaped my handwriting over the years. It was a big thrill that I could write in a straight line, without a ruler! I never considered myself an artist, but I became passionate about calligraphy, "the art of beautiful writing." I was always doodling and drawing during class, writing surprise birthday greetings for friends on the blackboard at the beginning of class. In my senior year in high school, I was co-editor for our 60th anniversary year book and wrote page headings in my scripted handwriting and designed 3 pages in calligraphic artwork to represent the major trends of "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow". I thought that was the pinnacle of my "career"! Many years later when I had the opportunity to travel extensively through my job, I "discovered" Asian and Arabic calligraphy and their stunning art forms. I'm fascinated by all forms of lettering, pens, ink, stationery, anything that allows me to express myself and to write elegant greetings for countless friends and family.
