We wanted to get married on January 1st, and I started my search for a photographer two weeks before the 1st. I wasn't used to the high prices that come with wedding ceremonies, but Jamey Thomas was one of the few photographers whose pricing was flexible based on the scope of event. We wanted to get married while riding an antique carousel with four witnesses and an officiant. Jamey didn’t shy away from the unconventional event, and his offer was pretty reasonable considering his talent, that it was on a national holiday with only two weeks’ advance notice, and that it was on a rotating carousel. One thing that I noticed right away about Jamey’s work (you can check out his work at jameythomas.com) is the spirit of his subject(s). I especially saw this in his “Mitzvah” section of his website, and the colors of his work are also beautiful, so I felt like our event would be in good hands. I often forgot that Jamey was taking photos; he’s not intrusive, and my new brother-in-law who makes shows for the local PBS KQED mentioned that Jamey’s camera and lighting equipment are of high quality. He showed up a little early, worked hard during the event, and I was surprised (I’m camera shy) and was so happy to have received a great collection that definitely captured the spirit of getting married at midlife on a carousel.
