James P. Davis Hall is a value for the what you get. We were able to host both our reception and ceremony in the same place saving a huge amount of money and the site is beautiful and fairly well maintained. However it is located within a county park and is treated as if it is a national treasure, of which it is not. Don't get me wrong, we would choose it again but his time we would know what we were getting into. Read the rules and regulations very closely, i would have but I was not in charge of booking the venue. You are not allowed to burn candles of any sort, and in fact they can't even set out or you will be fined. There shall be no glass at all, including wine bottles. No rice, bird seed, or anything of that nature may be thrown due to the fact that it could scratch their floors. There are twelve of these rules chief of them being that the last taillight has to be out of the park gate by midnight. They try to get you to shut down the reception at ten thirty to give stragglers enough time to get out of the park and they really drive this point home. We also had issues with the first officer who was to be present while alcohol was being served. He came in the morning of the wedding to tell us he was going to 'lay down the law' and was going to be very present during our reception which was not at all what we were expecting or told to be expected. He also expected a nice tip at the end of the night and was eager to suggest. We called the officer in charge of the hall and he promptly fired him from our wedding and called in another officer who ended up being amazing! Overall, James P. Davis is an incredible value for what you get but know that you do have to deal with small town government to have your wedding there.
