The entire team at J. Scheer & Co. is dedicated to the study and art of conservation cleaning and dress preservation. Our vast experience in working with museum professionals and on-going training in conservation science enables us to apply the most intellectually rigorous standards to these endeavors. Our brides are provided with a museum quality service that safely preserves one of their most cherished possessions.

Jonathan Scheer, owner and president, has studied conservation science and care of museum collections at the Smithsonian Institution's Conservation Analytical Laboratory, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Campbell Center for Historic Preservation. Mr. Scheer is a guest lecturer at the Conservation Center of the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. Mr. Scheer speaks regularly to art conservators on issues related to conservation cleaning methodologies and wedding gown preservation. He has contributed his expertise in conservation cleaning treatments to collections exhibited at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs at the Louvre in Paris and at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. He co-authored a paper on conservation cleaning treatments with Kathleen Kiefer, Visiting Textile Conservator at the Peabody Museum at Harvard University.


In addition to being highlighted in Martha Stewart Weddings, Harper's Bazaar, and Elegant Bride, J. Scheer & Co. has been featured in segments on wedding gown preservation on Martha Stewart Living Television and NBC's Today Show.

Highly recommend this Wedding Gown Cleaning & Preservation Services

I had an amazing experience sending my gown to J.Scheer & Co to clean and preserve my Mira Zwillinger wedding gown, when I reached out they mentioned this was the best company to work with and I am very happy with the results. I expected to spend a lot more than I would at my local cleaners, but no. The cost was surprisingly reasonable and within my budget so after speaking with Judy it made my decision to go with them pretty much a no-brainer.

I started searching soon after my wedding for somewhere to have my gown cleaned and found J. Scheer on Wedding Wire. This solidified a referral I had already received for J. Scheer from the salon where I purchased the gown. The process was seamless, all I did was ship the gown and about 4 months later it returned to me at my front door. I appreciate the detailed information about their services from the wonderful Judith who took care of my order. Their services seemed much different than just a basic dry cleaner so I decided that my gown was worth the investment. I'm happy with the work and even more happy to have a long warranty! Could not be more pleased with the customer service and the ease of the entire process. My dress was too special (and too dirty) for me to have anyone else handle it! Thank you Judith and J. Scheer.

I got my sample gown cleaned by J. Scheer. I was extremely pleased with their services, and their prices were much more reasonable than other cleaners. Everyone I spoke to via phone and email was very nice, and they were extremely responsive. I would highly recommend.

I bought a sample gown for my April wedding. I was so surprised on how the dress came back - it looked absolutely amazing! It was so clean and none of my guests knew that I wore a sample gown. They are currently cleaning and preserving my gown so my daughter can wear someday! They kept me up to date on what is going on. I am so happy that I found this company!

When I got my gown at Saks, they gave me the J.Scheer & Co. wedding day tips. They were extremely thoughtful and helpful. I've shared the tips with my other bride friends. In my experience with J.Scheer I felt cared for and I received a top notch service.

J. Scheer cleaned my wedding dress & veil after my wedding. I had a huge tear in a very expensive lace veil (a guest stepped on it on the receiving line!!), and J. Scheer fixed it perfectly...I can't even find where the tear is! The dress was packaged immaculately. Pricey, but worth it, especially for an heirloom dress and veil!

Guarantee is a joke!

I sent my daughter's wedding dress to J Scheer in October and when I received it back in March, in addition to not getting the bottom of the dress cleaned at all, they ruined the flower details, most notably on the straps, but all over the dress . When I called them after receiving the dress back, they knew which dress I was talking about and did not ask for pictures, They just said they would get the flowers replaced. I know that they reached out to the designer in March because I have since called the designer, but they never called me back. When I called them back, they told me that the fabric to fix it was $1000 a yard and they didn't need a full yard to fix it so they were trying to figure it out and they would call me back. Still never called back. After several months of this going back and forth and getting nowhere, I took the dress to a local wedding dress cleaner to see if they could get the mud stain off the bottom of the dress. I showed him the ruined flowers and told him to just clean the bottom of the dress. The stains came clean but in May, J Scheer emailed me to say that they will not fix the dress because I had it cleaned again, two months after they agreed to fix the damage. I have called Jonathan Scheer 3 times and he will not call me back. Their guarantee was the only reason I sent the dress to them in the first place and they are not even honoring it. And they charged me $1,600 and they didn't get the dress clean and they ruined it!! My daughter is so upset and I don't want other brides or mothers of the bride to have to go through this.

WORST SERVICE EVER! I had what was my beautiful Monique L'huillier gown "cleaned & preserved" with J Scheer and sadly the results were DISMAL. As vague as their conservator was in providing information about the process I entrusted that for the amount of money I was spending there would have been more thought and care regarding their customer service ensuring their customers that the gown would be properly handled. Instead I received a lot of we CANNOT guarantee and the fact that it would be handled with the upmost care.... right.

Well, I can say this is not the case. For the amount of money spent ($1000 plus dollars) my dress came back looking like furry Frankenstein in a bleached plastic coffin. First of all, the tissue paper with which the dress was supposedly "carefully" wrapped was covered in what looked like water or light ink stains, there were scattered pieces of lint, and what seemed like hair, and threads. In addition, the small tears in my gown had now become more visible, larger in size, and appeared to be stitched by someone who did not know what they were doing! Not to forget the stains that were NOT MINIMALIZED or seemed to be addressed at all as I had been "ASSURED it would be cleaned" by their VERY wordy emails. I can still hear my dress still crying over its botchery and mishandling :( I don't think the Met or any respectable museum would accept this as "museum grade" or "quality work, product, and service".

I was extremely DISAPPOINTED and HEARTBROKEN. The dress almost looks WORSE now than it did before. I would NEVER recommend this company and advise that you do your research.
