History

Hotel Marcel in New Haven is a landmark of Brutalist architecture, originally constructed in 1970 as the Armstrong Rubber Company headquarters. Later known as the Pirelli Tire Building, the property was purchased by IKEA before being acquired in 2019 by developer Bruce Becker. Following an extensive renovation, it reopened in May 2022 as part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection. Today, Hotel Marcel is celebrated as the nation’s first fully sustainable, net‑zero hotel, featuring 165 guest rooms and 9,000 square feet of event space. Operating entirely on electric power with zero carbon emissions, it blends historic preservation with cutting‑edge innovation.
