We had 2 photographers and 2 cinematographers, which came in handy for morning-of photos while myself and my wife were getting ready at different locations with our wedding party. On top of that, the amount of coverage for the ceremony and reception was exactly what was needed to capture the magic of our wedding. Oh, did we mention that we had a hurricane hit California the very day of our wedding? We didn’t… well that happened, and Herman and his team were still at each location promptly at the time they said they would be there. Herman was a recommendation from the venue where we got to see his book with his work for our selected wedding venue. We wanted to work with a photographer that we liked who was familiar with the venue as it’s a fairly unique location. Our photography package also included a 2-hour engagement photo session at the location of our choice with Herman and one of his assistants. This was a great way to meet him and get more comfortable and familiar working with him. Working with him on the engagement shoot was really fun, we immediately felt comfortable and natural with his directions and ideas for great photos.
When the wedding day came, we were able to immediately jump right into our photos and this ended up saving us time by being prepared and understanding how to work with him. Herman and his assistant Danny were very adaptable as the schedule for photos prior to the ceremony changed at the last minute. We never lost out on photos we wanted as they were able to work efficiently and beautifully throughout the whole day.
Many of our guests even mentioned that they didn’t even notice Herman during the event as he was not obtrusive and captured special moments in a natural and beautiful way. We’re very excited to see the results when they come in and he showed us a few sneak peeks during the wedding day and they looked spectacular. We would love to work with Herman again in the future!

When selecting my wedding vendors, I knew immediately who I would pick as my photographer/videographer. For some couples this is the hardest vendor to find but for me it was a clear and easy choice.

Herman Au Photography and Cotton Love Studios were the photographers/ videographers for my sister's wedding in 2012 and I even found our recently that my coworker used them as well. Plus, my venue allowed only one outside vendor and it was no brainer to choose them.

They were able to work with me and granted what I was looking for, from competitive pricing/offerings to getting all my best angles! Even though Herman himself was booked on 10.10, he brought his best team out there for our engagement session and our big day. Huge shoutout to Doug and team who were all in their A game from arrival to the end. It was very fun having my own entourage follow me. As hard as it was for me not to have my phone on me to snap photos, I didn't need to worry because his team was there clicking away and getting every detail.

Herman Au Photography was the photographer I chose for my wedding in June of 2019. This decision was by far one of the best and easiest decisions of my entire wedding planning. Herman is such a professional in his business dealings, but warm and gentle at the same time. He answered every email, text, phone call promptly and with patience. He handled his photography the same way. Each photo he captured was of beautiful quality and selection. Most of the time, I wasn't even aware he was snapping photos, so I never felt nervous or awkward. His choices of what to capture showed elegance and class without being too stiff and formal. He is a photographic magician! He can make anything and anyone look stunning and classy through his lens! Herman is thoughtful and has his client’s best interest at heart. Of the 10 different vendors we hired for our wedding, he easily ranks at the top.
His photography and videography style is relatable, genuine, and timeless. I wanted a one-stop shop and he offered everything we needed - photography, cinematography, and photo booth.
Not only is he an extremely talented photographer, but he also listens attentively, gave great creative suggestions, and always got back to me promptly. Herman's even keel personal makes him very approachable and makes you feel comfortable. I think it's crucial that the photographer makes you feel this way, since you're spending more than half of the wedding day with the team taking photos. We feel our best when at ease, so naturally you want to feel this way on one of the most important days.
One of my biggest pain points from the wedding was the slideshow. I ran into issues trying to convert the file and ended up letting one of the groomsmen take over. He and Herman's team were still working on it hours before our reception! In the end, it played just fine. He saved the day! I would've been heartbroken if the slideshow never played. It's moments like these when once everything is over and done with, I reflect back and can truly appreciate everything that happened behind the scenes. And how well they kept those details behind the scenes so I could enjoy a stress-free day.
On our wedding day, I met Herman’s team. Peter the head videographer, Grace the assistant videographer, and Li the assistant photographer. We really gave them a run for their money by having an aggressive timeline filled with non-stop activities. They worked through everything patiently while engaging in conversation and cracking jokes. Herman is full of surprises and consistently exceeded my expectations. So when it came to the big day, it wasn’t any different. That day he and his team went above and beyond!!! We really lucked out with Herman.

We were referred to Herman because a close friend of mine had used him for his engagement photos, and we had loved how their photos came out. After meeting with Herman for the first time, we walked away trusting 100% that Herman was the right photographer for us. We loved how personable he was, his passion for his work, and also his care for his clients. We could tell it was more important we see the value in his work than finding the best package.

Engagement Shoot:
I highly recommend doing the engagement shoot with Herman if you are hiring him for the wedding day. Doing so really allows you to get to know Herman and feel like a friend is there with you on your wedding day. Most importantly, Herman coaches and guides you through how to smile and position your body in photographs. The engagement shoot came out amazing and was everything we had hoped for. We really loved how dramatic some of the shots came out. He really takes note of what kind of style you are looking for and also works closely with your own personalities.

On our wedding day, Herman and his team were there with us the entire day. We felt totally at ease, and were able to be ourselves. We appreciated how patient he was in making sure we were able to capture all the important moments throughout our wedding day.

My husband and I booked Herman (and his photobooth service, separate review on LA Portrait Booth) for our wedding reception on 8/6/16. Our package also included 3 hours of engagement photo shoot. Ever since our consultation we were impressed with Herman's professionalism but he is also very approachable.

Engagement photoshoot:
* We did this at UCLA, which Herman has has experience doing in the past. This meant that he knew which areas made for good pictures, so his extensive experience definitely helps!
* My husband is extremely awkward in front of the camera, and Herman did a great job making him feel comfortable and gave us lots of tips for posed photos.
* Herman got a great mixed of candid and posed photos, close-ups and ones that captures the environment. This is actually why we decided to pick Herman over another photographer, we loved how he captures the environment and landscapes and beautiful incorporates that into the photos with the people.

Wedding Reception:
* Herman and his assistant showed up promptly to our venue even earlier than we had asked him. They surveyed the area before we're even ready for any photos to make sure they knew what areas makes good photos. They made sure they knew what pictures we wanted, and got plenty of photos of the wedding details, so those are going to be great memories for us to look back onto.
* Before our event started we were able to get some couple photos around the venue, and also posed photos with family and friends. Herman was very patient with our family and it was a plus he spoke cantonese to our families!
* During the event, Herman and his assistant never made themselves visible but they got plenty of great candid photos throughout the night. They were aware of all of the happenings and captured every moment of the night (dances, toasts, games, bouquet & garter toss, cake cutting, etc).

Overall we were very happy with the quality of the photos we got from Herman and he was very-very gr

We actually found Herman through Yelp! and after our first meeting with him, we knew we wanted to book him. Our only hesitation was the cost, but Herman was very willing to help us find a package that included everything we wanted and fit within our budget.

One of the things that made working with Herman so enjoyable is that he's friendly, approachable, and easy to talk to. Having someone follow you around with a camera can be quite awkward at times so it helps to find a photographer that you're comfortable with. Luckily we had an engagement session included in our package so we had the chance to get to know Herman a little better during that shoot. I'll be honest, I was terrified that the pictures were going to turn out horrible because I was so nervous! But all the pictures turned out amazing!! That definitely put me at ease for the wedding day.

On the big day, Herman and his team arrived bright and early. They were so friendly and it was like they weren't even there. I figured it was probably going to take several weeks before we'd get to see any of the pictures from the wedding day, but to my surprise, Herman sent us a link a coupe days after the wedding so that we could take a sneak peak! I was SO happy with them!! Herman and his team captured all the important moments, but they also took pictures of all the small details (like our dessert table teapots/teacups, our table numbers, all the flower arrangements). The wedding day was so hectic that I didn't even get a chance to see a lot of the detailed decorations that I had picked out myself so I couldn't be more thankful that everything is captured in the pictures.

In the end, we ended up booking Herman and his team for our photography, videography, and photo booth services and everything turned out amazing! Both Herman and his entire team are super friendly and easy to work with and we couldn't have made a better choice!
