Since 1977, The Sound of Swing Orchestra has been Hampton Roads leading premier big band swing dance orchestra. Specialist in the Big Band sounds of the 40’s through today, this fourteen piece swing orchestra performs the exciting memorable sound classics of Count Basie, Duke Ellington1 Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw. Benny Goodman, Jan Savitt Jimmy Lunsford. Les Brown, Les Elgart, Ray Anthony, Michael Buble. Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Rosemary Clooney, Linda Ronstadt, Harry Connick, Jr. and many more.

Dick Crist was founding leader for 27 years until passing in 2004. Bassist Glen Boswick became a leader and continues today the exciting dance tradition of upbeat swing, sizzling Latins, romantic ballads, and waltzes. Featured vocalist Jimmy Crank and Russ Robertson sing the songbook of American popular standards, the best of Broadway, and the hits of today. "What A Wonderful World," "Marie," "It's All In The Game," "Witchcraft," "You Belong To Me" " You Are My Special Angel " are only a sampling these two dynamic vocalists bring to every performance.

Musical credits include two presidential campaigns, performance for The Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia The Honorable Tim Kaine, The Organization of American States, Washington DC, The Big Band Preservation Society of North Carolina, and The Bobby Rydell Show. Locally the orchestra has been featured at Regent University, The Virginia Choral Society, Peninsula FoodBank’s "Tastefully Yours," Norfolk HarborFest, The Virginia Air & Space Museum and The Norfolk Reelers.
