Sweet and simple

As a wedding photographer, I love how lovely and quaint The General's Daughter is. It always feels like kind of a hidden gem to me. But even though it's simple, it's got over-the-top charm. White cottage-like structure, lush greenery....I can't wait until I'm back.

The General's Daughter was the perfect location for our wedding of 59 people! We fell in love with GD during our initial walkthrough. The location is very homey and cozy and it provided us with the intimate atmosphere we were trying to create. The staff was amazing to work with - professional, prompt communication, and always willing to help! They made the whole experience of finding a venue much easier. The site has multiple indoor and outdoor spaces to use and help spread out the different activities. They had a beautiful stone fireplace which became the focal point of our ceremony and we used the other outdoor space for cocktail hour. There is a wine room that we used as our dance floor/dessert area but has been popular as an indoor ceremony location. Another reason we loved GD was that they allowed our dog to be part of the ceremony - a lot of venues don't allow dogs within their premises other than service animals.

One thing that made GD the ultimate venue is that it has a fully operational kitchen so no pre-cooked catering food that is reheated was served; everything was hot off the stove and our guests were able to taste the difference! GD/Ramekins was also our caterer and everything was delicious! Our guests have told us that ours is the best wedding food they've ever had and a few have asked me what was the wine served that night as they wanted to buy some for themselves. GD played a huge part in making our wedding the best day ever!

The General's Daughter is an exquisite wedding venue! We had our winter wedding here and it was perfect! The timeless charm of the Victorian house lends a comfortable and elegant atmosphere. The indoor and outdoor areas create interest and variety for the flow of the event. We worked primarily with Susan da Ponte, who was so sweet, accommodating and professional. During the ceremony and reception, the staff was kind, efficient and unobtrusive. We never had to worry about a thing! We love this place!!

Secondary Event

We were able to use Generals Daughter for a secondary event because our primary event was at Seven Branches. The venue itself is stunning. It worked perfectly for our Sangeet, we had a mixed culture wedding. We chose to have our Hindu Ceremony & sangeet at this location instead of doing a traditional Rehersal dinner. The Bridal suite was bright and spacious. There is plenty of space to have an artist set up or for self application for makeup as well as hair. The main dining rooms were amazing for dancing and buffet style food. We used the side room for the “lounge” picture taking area as well as for Mhendi. The outdoor patio spaces were great for guests to take a break from dancing to enjoy dinner and enjoy the nice Sonoma weather.

The one negative we had from our event was the lack of communication between the set up/break down staff and us. We paid for 4 hours and were told the tables and event space would be set up by 9 am. I had arranged for an event designer to show up at 1 to decorate the space. When I arrived at 11 Nothing was set up and the onsite coordinator was nowhere to be found. I was able to find someone at Seven Branches and got the tables set up but I was disappointed that I had to step in.
Then at the end of the night the crew started to break down at 8:45 when we had the space till 9pm. Food was taken away early and we felt rushed out of the space. It had been communicated to us that our vendors (Lights, speaker & decor) would be able to come back around 11 to pick up their items. However, the on site manager said that was not the case. He and his crew put all of our items outside and said that he had to close and lock the doors at 10pm. When I communicated that the 10pm timeline was never communicated to us or our vendors it was received with an exasperated sigh and an eye roll.
Fortunately I was able to call my vendors and helped them break down the space myself but the attitude from the break down manager was not well received.

Overall our event was beautiful, so much fun and our guests had a blast. I would 100% recommend the use of this venue just make sure timelines are clearly communicated.
