District 5 Schoolhouse

My wife and I are so glad we booked our wedding and reception at the Schoolhouse! It has a great set up for small to moderate sized wedding parties! The pay it forward closet is one of its most surprising features! We used many decorations, flowers, etc! It all worked so well together and helped us save money! Sarah and her staff are all so helpful and accommodating and they have an extensive list of vendors they have worked with that we used to create our best wedding day! They’re not “preferred” or “have to use” vendors - but ones that have been to the schoolhouse before - and the couples have been happy with. This allowed us to have the perfect day. Everyone worked perfectly together. Located close to I-196 and Chicago Drive it is a great location. We are so beyond happy this was our venue!

We could not have asked for a more perfect venue! Sarah and her team were so easy to work with and very helpful with everything. The venue was beautiful and exactly what we wanted. The pay it forward closet was amazing!

We got married at this venue in October 2022. Sarah, the owner of the venue, was fantastic in assisting us with our organization and planning from the time of booking. She and her team helped tremendously by essentially being a day of coordinator and planner. They have lots of experience and know what works well with the space they have. They have a couple closets with a multitude of decorations that have been donated from previous brides that are free to use. Their bridal suite and grooms lounge worked perfect for day of getting ready. We had an outdoor ceremony with the best weather and beautiful set up. Sarah and her team went absolutely above and beyond to ensure all of our wishes were handled and well respected to give us the most perfect day we could have imagined.

Sarah was fantastic! We loved working with her and the venue was perfect. Having her and her staff there the day of was super helpful. The closet of donated decor was a great bonus.

My wife and I are so happy that we booked District 5 Schoolhouse as our venue. It was definitely one of the best choices we made during the engagement (the best being deciding to get married to one another). Don't overlook this hidden gem.

Although the venue itself is fantastic, the best thing about this venue is actually the venue's owner, Sarah. She is incredibly nice and she really wants to get every detail of your wedding perfect. She is willing to spend a lot of time making your event magical. She also provided a lot of insight to my wife and I, we found her advice very useful. Sarah is very organized and even gives you a blueprint and timeline of your event just to make sure that no detail is overlooked. She is both reasonable and flexible. Sarah also puts your needs first and if there is any way that she can accommodate your request, she is more than happy to do so. Personally, we had a couple unusual requests for Sarah, but she was able to fulfill our needs perfectly. She will also respond to your needs quickly (especially anything that comes up on the wedding day) and she takes care of so many small things that might have otherwise been overlooked. She takes so much stress off of the engaged couple and planning the wedding would have been a lot harder without her. We had a fantastic experience with Sarah and we really loved getting to know her over our engagement. If I had looked into 200 more venues before deciding on District 5 Schoolhouse, it would not be an exaggeration to say that Sarah would still be the person that I would most want to do business with.

District 5 Schoolhouse is also all-inclusive, so you save a ton of money on decorations. We were surprised at a lot of the things that were part of the package, like firewood for the firepit nearby and the yard games for cocktail hour. The venue also takes care of all of the setup work for everything and you get the venue to yourself (some venues give you a single room and you share common areas). It was also nice that we didn't have to worry about excessive rules and red tape that you may get at some other venues, just a few common sense things like no open flames in the building (it is historical). There is plenty of parking as well. One of the nicest features is also the bridal and groomsmen lounges. These are extra spacious rooms for you to get ready in the morning. Both are themed appropriately and the bridal lounge has a bunch of chairs and mirrors for prep work (similar to a beauty salon). This was absolutely amazing. If you want to book a venue based on value, look no further than District 5 Schoolhouse because the rates are very reasonable and Sarah still does not skimp out on amenities. It would be hard to find more value from a commercial venue.

This venue is very charming and I would say it is the perfect size for small or medium size weddings (up to 100 people). The venue would still work and you would still have a fantastic time with guest counts from 100 to 200 though. You are missing out if you don't at least give this venue a tour. They are free and you might just find a venue that you will fall in love with (like we did).

My partner and I have met with Sarah, the owner, a couple of times now and she has been amazing!! So helpful and personable. We cannot wait to get married in this beautiful schoolhouse!

Everyone at our wedding loved the Schoolhouse. The building is absolutely beautiful. Sarah is extremely helpful, professional, and provided everything we needed to make sure our day was flawless.

The moment I stepped foot into this historic schoolhouse, I fell in love. I love the original ceilings and chalkboards. This venue has an unique charm to it that makes it perfect for a wedding! Sarah and her interns were amazing to work with on our wedding day. Sarah was very helpful in the planning of the ceremony set up and the reception set up and how we would flow between the two. A big plus is their donation closet of previous weddings decorations! We were able to use enough items in the closet to save us on the cost of table decorations (hopefully you could be lucky enough to find some goodies in there for your event!) I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for something different than a banquet hall. The pricing is very reasonable and you are able to use your own vendors, instead of having to choose a preferred vendor, that you may not necessarily like.

What an amazing location for a wedding. This place has old school charm coming out the windows.
There is a groom's suite and a bride's suite downstairs, and after the wedding begins the groom's suite can be converted into a children's area!
There is a huge yard with a fire pit, yard games to play during cocktail hour, and plenty of parking.
Sarah is really great to work with, too. She is extremely helpful with planning your day and provides a lot of necessities. Tables and chairs are included as well as basic linens. There is even a big closet downstairs where people can donate their decor and you can use it for your event free of charge.
