Loved the venue. And they worked with us on many things that were incidental. They were very gracious in time allotment for set up and tear down. Have us access well before we were supposed to. It's a gorgeous historical building. It actually save us quite a bit on decor because it's so beautiful we didn't need a whole lot to make it outstanding

We were very excited to get married and the Hall of State! The price was very reasonable, and we fell in love with it as soon as we walked in. They host many events, including weddings, so they have almost everything you need. They have a preferred list of vendors for catering, and that made life easier because we didn't have to worry about making sure a vendor we wanted to use new the ropes of this historic building. Nora was very helpful, and our planner communicated with her often to make sure our day went as planned. Beautiful venue, beautiful wedding!

Beautiful historical building for a timeless event

The Hall of State was absolutely beautiful and so unique. You cannot beat the grandeur of the venue, and especially the gold medallion in the great hall. Having our wedding here made it feel like a world class event, and the venue really spoke for itself with its timeless architecture and built-in features. The HoS required very minimal decoration, which was a huge saving for our budget. Nora is the site coordinator and she was great to work with, extremely kind and accommodating, and she even allowed me to use my caterer even though they were not on the approved list (they had experience working in a historical venue). The only downside to the venue was extensive construction work on the outside of the building at the time of our wedding. This was not planned when we signed our contract and paid the deposit, but Nora made some concessions to make up for this. Although this didn't affect our event taking place inside, we missed out on some iconic photos on the front steps and our guests had to find their way in through the side door. I wish there would have been a way to avoid the construction due to the contracts DHS had to fulfill with weddings, corporate parties etc., but this is a city owned building and I understand that this was out of their hands. The bridal suite is also a bit small, it was a miracle that we were able to get two hairstylists, two makeup artists, and six girls to fit in here for a few hours. But it worked for our needs and we got some beautiful photos in this classic room. I'd still recommend their onsite suite over getting ready at a hotel nearby, much more convenient. As long as there isn't any construction/restoration going on, I highly recommend the Hall of State for a truly memorable and unique event to any future DFW brides.

We loved our wedding venue! It was so unique and special. We got so many compliments and raves from our guests about our wedding venue.
Michelle Hope was great and was patient with us, even with all of our many questions throughout the process. Michelle also provided our catering through Food Glorious Food, so that was really convenient for us, and the food was quite tasty.

The only issue we had with the venue was the acoustics. It’s a little challenging in there because it’s so large and the echo was bad during the speeches. As long as you’re aware of that, it’s a problem that can be solved.

The look of this venue is absolutely amazing!! Our guests loved it so much! And we loved it the night of our reception as well! That being said, the lady we were working with for most of our engagement and planning was incredibly hard to work with! However, a few days before our wedding she left the company and they brought on Sarabeth. Even though we worked with Sarabeth for a very short time, she was a joy to work with! My lower service, responsiveness and professionalism ratings are due only to the previous point of contact. I think other couples will enjoy the process a lot more with Sarabeth on board!

I got married at the Hall of State in August 2012. I along with my guests were stunned by this magnificent building. However, I was less than impressed with the service I received from the captive caterer and its wedding planner/catering manager. The onsite wedding planner/catering manager was rude to me, my husband, and family. She was unprofessional and did not complete items she said she would. Every time I talked with her, it was as she had better things to do. However, the actual food was good. Just wish their personnel was more professional. I absolutely love this venue and would recommend it, just hope they have replaced this manager/planner.

I want to start off by saying that it was an awful experience getting married here. The AC was not working on our wedding day. Our guests complained to them even before we did. When I ran into Nora, she said that she already called The city and that somebody was on the way to fix the AC. Our guests were sweating profusely. My wife was sweating as though she was in the sauna- in her wedding dress. Imagine how our pictures will be? That isn’t the most infuriating part! We called on Monday to talk to Molly Bogen and she said that she would have to talk to Nora and the electrician etc. We called again and Nora denied that the AC was faulty. In fact she flat out lied to our faces. She said the AC was at 67. Yet it was so hot in that building that our MC had to make multiple announcements to inform our guests not to worry that the AC will be fixed soon. Yet Nora Lenhart, lied and stated that the AC was perfectly fine. And that the City electrician that came stated that there was nothing wrong with it. That it was a good enough temperature for the arts stored in the building. Well, what about human life? I wonder why she had to call the city that night in the first place, if the Ac was working perfectly fine. I wonder why our guests were outside fanning themselves. I wonder why our room was literally empty, hours before the event ended. By the way we paid $250 for an extra hour. But they cleaned out the room and pretty much chased our guests out starting from 12:30 even though we paid till 2am.

I would not recommend this place to anybody that has an important event or a wedding. Molly admitted that the building is old and that the AC might not be working like brand new. So, if that is her excuse and if they have no decency and if they are so dishonest and classless and unfair in their business practice, please do not entrust your once in a lifetime event to them. They are sweet until you sign the contract!

I wish I would give it a one- star.
