About
If you know anything about Virginia and marriage, it's a well known fact that officiants are getting harder to find. The reason? Because the Virginia Supreme court made it impossible for someone to just get an online ordination and then get authorization to perform marriages.
So, there is a way to "get around this situation" you decide you want to have your uncle, father, mother, best friend to officiate your wedding? Well, the good news is that in Virginia you can get a permit to perform a one day civil ceremony BUT there are stipulations.
*The officiant must be a RESIDENT of the city/county where they want to get the one day rights... Your uncle lives out of town? Too bad, he can't officiate.
*The cost is minimal, in most cases less than $60 BUT you have to post a $500 bond, which is more money tied up until the license is returned to the county clerk and then it will be returned when they get around to it.
*In most cases there will be a background check. This can take up to 30 days so I hope you planned this with plenty of time to spare.
The solution?
Well, if you want a real wedding and not just a quick stop at the JP then you will either have to find a clergyman that is willing to do it or find an officiant that slipped in under the radar before 2013.
I am your solution. I AM an ordained minister and I am authorized to perform marriages in Virginia.
Let me tell you what I can do for you:
1) Perform your ceremony regardless of your religious belief (or lack their of)
2) Perform your ceremony regardless of your sexual orientation
32) I will travel within the Commonwealth of Virginia to perform your ceremony (mileage stipend may have to be added depending on distance)
Although I am ordained in a traditional church I do not judge. I believe that any two people can fall hopelessly in love and have the right to marry.
***THIS IS IMPORTANT****
I NO LONGER PERFORM FULL CEREMONIES.
What I do offer is a legal alternative to the Just of the Peace or City/county court trip.
Travel less than 20 miles incur no additional cost from the listing. Anything beyond this distance will incur $.50 a mile. This is round trip mileage.
Quickie: ($100) This is for the couple that want to get married but the reception is the centerpiece of the day, not the actual wedding. This one is quick and simple and already written.
Elopement: ($70) No major fanfare, no need for witnesses, I can come to your living room and ask you both if you want to be married and sign the marriage license. This one is a favorite with people that have been married before and just don't want all the "hoopla" that goes along with a traditional wedding.
Document signing: ($60) So, you want to have your uncle, father, mother, best friend to perform the ceremony for your wedding? Invite me to the wedding. I can witness the ceremony and then I can take care of the marriage license. I will have you sign it, I will sign it, and I will be the one to return it to the county clerk so that is legal.
Regardless of which ceremony type you choose YOU decide if you want God to be a part of it. I do not judge, I do not push my beliefs into your special day.
