Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis Mill District is a historic hotel located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This new wedding venue opening early 2019 is situated in the East End and was formerly the Advance Thresher/Emerson-Newton Implement Company. Originally built in the 1900s, this industrial-style building will wow you and your guests with its original brick and exposed wood throughout. Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis Mill District prides themselves on their convenient location only steps away from the Skyway, light rail, Guthrie Theater and U.S. Bank Stadium.

Facilities and Capacity
Couples can accommodate up to 200 guests at this vintage-style hotel. They offer multiple indoor meeting and event spaces with the largest room being the Newton Emerson Ballroom at 3,000 square feet. It features exposed wood ceilings and exterior brick walls. For a more intimate affair, you can choose between the Thresher Room, Newton Emerson I or Newtown Emerson II rooms. Each of these spaces can hold 60 to 80 guests for a sit down dinner. They also offer ample pre-function space, perfect for your cocktail hour.

Perfect Celebration

I am so happy that we chose The Canopy Minneapolis Mill District for our wedding. Patty Burniece and her team were so accommodating and wonderful through the entire experience. Chef did a great job with the food. Guests are still raving!

Excellent Venue!

We had not considered a hotel venue until my now-husband mentioned the Canopy did a fabulous job hosting many coworkers for dinner - the food was superb apparently for such a large group. So, we reached out, and wow are we glad that we did! The event space, for being a meeting space traditionally, was absolutely perfect for a wedding. And beautiful! First look photos by a candlelit fireplace, Ceremony with an urban backdrop for our arches, dinner in a large seating room with TV monitors for our slide show, and a perfect dance floor equipped with a large bar, plenty of room for a DJ, and lots of seating and standing spaces surrounding the floor for those shyer guests. Our master suite for the evening was stunning, bigger than my first apartment, and easily equipped all the gals getting make up and hair with me the day-of.

And then there is Patty, the hotel manager. WOW, she is simply outstanding. I can't say enough nice things. She is accommodating, helpful, and she actually cared. This was evident in her quick email responses and friendly interactions. She truly went above and beyond. Patty herself is a reason to book this place! I didn't realize how important it was to have an interactive on-site person, because the day of, all I wanted to do was enjoy myself.

Other considerations: the food was fantastic. They managed to accommodate a combination of egg, gluten, soy, and dairy allergy for a couple guests - not even kidding - and it tasted fabulous. Now, the best part? It's dog friendly. Our two well-behaved and exercised dogs were in the ceremony, and stayed in the reception hall with us right up until close at 12:30 AM. If we could this all over again, we'd still pick the Canopy!

Intimate and Unique Wedding Weekend at the Canopy Minneapolis


We highly recommend having your wedding ceremony and base for your guests at the Canopy Hotel in the Mill District in Minneapolis. First and foremost Patty Burniece, our event contact was truly outstanding. She is professional, detail oriented and really cares that your wedding be the event of your dreams. She responded to every email within hours over the course of a whole year. The boutique hotel is a unique, classy setting. The sweet spot for a wedding in their space is 110. You have access to the lower level which has three rooms. They flip the ceremony room for dinner after the wedding ceremony. Then you have access to these two other really flexible interconnected rooms for cocktails and your band and a place next to it to talk, connect, eat. It flows beautifully and offers such a great alternative to a big ball room. It is intimate, comfortable and creates such a fun and hip vibe. Most of our guests stayed at the Canopy where the rooms are beautifully and uniquely decorated. The lobby has comfortable living room areas with a bar, really cool seating and a singer on Saturday night. We hung out in these spaces between events over the weekend and everyone was raving about the hotel. It is also within walking distance to the Farmers Market on Saturday, the Guthrie and the Mississippi Trail. We did our rehearsal dinner at the Open Book down the street and everyone walked there. I highly recommend your smaller wedding at the Canopy. It is also really nice to have everyone staying in the hotel where the wedding is based. No hassle with transportation. We had an epic wedding weekend there that we will never forget. You will thank yourself and Patty Burniece.

Unbelievable Experience

Oh my gosh. My husband and I cannot not praise the Canopy Team and Patty (their event coordinator) enough. The space is so unique and beautiful. When you rent the hotel for your wedding you receive access to the whole bottom floor which consists of 3 separate rooms. It was the perfect size for our 100 person wedding.

All of the workers did their absolute best to make our day amazing. They helped with setting up our DIY decorations. They helped coordinate with vendors. The bartenders were on top of it!. All my husband had to do was walk by the bar and they had a cold Miller waiting for him.

Patty truly acted as a wedding planner for us. She made sure everything in the hotel was perfect. She even helped serve dinner when they were short a server! She came on Saturday and stayed through the event to make sure there were no hiccups. We spoke many times about logistics before the wedding day. She answered all of our questions and emails promptly. We could not have pulled off the day without her. I could just give her contact info to my other vendors and she just handled it.

The hotel rooms are also so beautiful and the whole hotel has such an amazing vibe. I've never wanted a hotel ballroom hotel and let me tell you this is not a typical ballroom. The food was amazing! Umbra caters it and because it is attached to the hotel the food is brought right downstairs and and does not have to be catered in. We also were allowed to bring in our own desserts.

The best part - they're a new venue. Which means they're not fully booked for through 2023. We almost gave up our 10/9 date with the church because we could not find a venue in Minneapolis. Finding the Canopy was truly a blessing. Do yourself a favor and go for a tour of the venue. I promise you will not regret it.
