About

When I made the move from a 20-year career in photojournalism to shooting interesting couples in love, I brought the same sensibility that makes for great stories, which is a genuine love of humanity and a commitment to authentically capture natural moments. No fakin’ it, nothing canned, no cheese. No hysteria - just great pictures.

I’m Annie, and I will show up, make you laugh, let you be who you are and deliver superior images. My job is to capture fully alive moments – funny, reverent, serious – and tell your compelling story, the one in which you are the leading role.

While I love Detroit and Pittsburgh, I photograph celebrations of distinction and character, worldwide, from destination weddings to Jennifer Anniston’s 40th birthday to Muhammad Ali’s 70th. My work has appeared in Grace Ormonde, Sports Illustrated and National Geographic, but perhaps the most important place it will reside is in the wonderful memories found in your gorgeous wedding album.

I HIGHLY recommend Annie O'Neill Photography!! Annie, Nancy, and her staff are the GREATEST! I can't talk enough about their professionalism, flexibility, and passion for their art! Annie was the last person to leave our wedding. She is an extremely talented artist and her love of photography and capturing moments shines through! She is such a joy to be around - I would have wanted Nancy and Annie at my wedding even if they weren't photographing it! They did whatever it took to get the shot and boy did we love the results! The photo-journalist style gave the view into what the day was actually like. Her photos tell our story and show the personalities of each and every person. It's magical and we love them! We will cherish Annie's photos forever.

Someone gave me a great piece of advice as I was wedding planning "talk to the photographer the most before deciding as you will spend the most time with them throughout the day." I took this seriously as I phone interviewed about 10 photographers. A family friend recommended Annie. After seeing her website, I knew she was the type of look I was going for. More journalistic than posed. After talking to her, I knew she was it. She's just cool. She's laid back, very professional and the type of energy you want on your wedding day. She didn't make us take a bunch of pictures that she thought would look good on her website or weren't us. She just wanted to capture our essence through photos which she found out quite quickly wasn't super cutesy/kissy/PDA. She helped us through it and we have some amazing fun and silly shots. I thought I should've given her a list of the pictures that I really wanted but sort of forgot as we got closer. Low and behold, every shot that I wanted, she got. I don't know how she did it, but she did! I've only gotten the preview so far and "obsessed" is the only word that captures it.

We also used her for the photobooth at our wedding which was a hit! She designed a very simple custom photostrip for us with our names and wedding date. She also had a woman manning the photo booth and printing out an extra strip to be placed in the guest book. My husband and I went through the book on our wedding kind and were crying laughing at the memories they captured. Such a nice personal way to help savor the day for years to come.

My husband and I both agree that Annie was the #1 best choice we made for our wedding day.

Annie is an absolute pleasure to work with and I can't recommend her enough! Her editorial background were a perfect match for my wedding. We chatted a couple times in advance of the wedding for her to get a sense of the look I was going for in the photos. There were so many candid moments that the photographs have brought people who weren't at the wedding to tears. She captured the joy that everyone felt that day and I relive it every time I look at the photos.

I feel like 5 stars is not enough for the quality of photographer and person we received in Annie O'Neill! From the very first consultation, we knew she would be so easy to work with and would give us amazing photos of our day. She has the most calming presence - chatting through details made me feel like everything was going to work out just fine, even when I was freaking out about all of the details. She included our engagement session in the overall cost, which was awesome. On the day of the wedding, she had the greatest ideas about where to get some unique wedding party photos - not just hopping to the traditional bridge, Point Park or North Shore spots. With her background as a photojournalist (20 years at the Post-Gazette), she was able to capture the moments that made our wedding truly special. She gives all couples a disc with ownership to all photos, which is something not every photographer will do - they usually want you to buy prints only through them and can hold your photos 'hostage.' I truly believe that Annie just wants her clients to be happy and look back on their day in the best and most beautiful way. She is not only a talented photographer, but a lovely person. My only complaint is that she gave us too many good photos and I will never be able to choose which ones to include in the album or print!
My advice to any bride on budgeting for a wedding - spend money on your photographer. Don't cut corners here. It was worth every penny for the all-star we got in Annie!

Annie was definitely our best wedding vendor! Easy to work with, great listener, reasonably priced, professional, excellent online gallery, and a completely real and engaging personality. I would highly recommend her for any type of photography needs. She was laying face down on a wet sidewalk covered in leaves in the rain for our wedding photos! Go Annie! We've received so many compliments and our families are very happy with Annie's work... can't wait to hang our wedding photos up!!

To say Annie was amazing is an understatement. Not only were the lines of communication always open, be it phone or email, but she took all of the stress out of organizing this part of our wedding. Since we were planning for a wedding in one city from another, this was a huge help. But more than that, she did what a lot of other people don't: she listened. By getting to know us through casual conversations about non-wedding-related things (like life, work, family, friends), she really got who we were as people and as a couple. This allowed her to suggest locations and set-ups for the photographs that were totally us without feeling stiff, stodgy, or silly. And when we suggested a spot for photographs (like at a bowling alley that was important to us and our relationship history), Annie not only agreed to go there for photos, she ran with the idea and we have great pictures that completely encapsulate the fun of our wedding day and the importance of that place to us.

Annie was a godsend for us, and she (and her partner, Lake) endeared herself to our friends, families, and guests. The two things people raved about after the wedding? The food and Annie. Across the board, everyone loved her — beginning with us. The photos are beautiful — how could they not be? She's an incredible photographer who approaches things with a photojournalist's eye, which was exactly what we wanted in a wedding photographer. But Annie was more than that to us. She really was an important part of our wedding day, and we can't imagine our wedding without her as a part of it. We were very lucky to have her there, and we're really lucky to now have her in our lives.

We were so happy to have found Annie and Nancy. I had looked at a lot of photographers in the area and decided what kind of photography I wanted, a mix of posed and photo journalistic, and that I wanted to photographers during the wedding to get a mix of guests and us. I had picked up a card for Annie at the location we choose for our wedding and couldn't wait to get home to look at her website. I was really pleased with what I saw and we decided that she would do our engagement photos before we committed to booking her for the wedding. After getting back our engagement pictures we knew we needed to book Annie as soon as possible. In the weeks before our wedding the extra mile Annie goes to making sure you get what you want from your pictures really began to show. She first asked for a list of "must have pictures" and discussed with us how that would work into our time schedule (we had our ceremony and reception at the same location, cutting down on time between the two). Then she carefully planned out when she would be there and start taking pictures allowing me to organize family and wedding party. The night of the rehearsal I was shocked to turn around and see Annie there with her camera walking through all of various ceremony locations (we had an outdoor ceremony with two rain plans). She stayed for each location to see where we would be standing and guests would be seated. Of all of the weddings I have been in/to and friends that have gotten married I had never heard them say their photographer came to the rehearsal. This step to me was above and beyond and really showed when we got our pictures back. In the end our pictures were beautiful and we get compliments all of the time when people see them, including complete strangers.

I can not recommend Annie and Nancy highly enough. We have had some professional pictures taken since and while they were nice, we always find ourselves comparing them to the ones Annie took. If we ever find ourselves back in the Pittsburgh area or Michigan and need photos taken I will not even look for anyone else to take the photos. We couldn't have asked for better pictures and would and do highly recommend Annie to anyone looking for a photographer.

Annie was the ideal photographer from start to finish. She was very responsive, incredibly creative, and always on the lookout for little things here and there to make our big day better. Annie is not the type of person to sit back and just take pictures - she is on her feet around the clock looking for the perfect shot and trying to make the best of every second.

After the wedding, my wife and I felt that we would have wanted Annie there, camera or not, just because of the great energy she brought to the event. Her positivity and outward excitement helped to make our wedding care-free, fun, and beautifully documented!

Annie was absolutely amazing!! My wife and I could not have asked for a more enjoyable experience! She met with us multiple times before the ceremony to capture all of the information she could on the feel of the wedding and what we were looking for out of our photography experience.
At the wedding, she brought an assistant, Nancy, with her to capture every moment of the day. They arrived 3 hours before the wedding to take pictures of us getting ready separately, and took some beautiful shots we may not have had otherwise. Having the two photographers also gave us different perspectives on the events, such as an aerial view of the wedding and intimate close-ups of the ceremony. Rather than having to run back and forth and missing potential moments, having both present captured everything. Annie and Nancy stayed until the very end of the reception, and even offered to stay for the bonfire afterward to take more pictures. She never pressured us on time or gave a set hour rate- she was there to capture the entire experience no matter what time the festivities ended.

Most importantly, in my opinion, she was the antithesis of many other photography agencies we've had experiences with. She never encouraged us to pose oddly for any photos and was more concerned about capturing a natural moment than a forced one. As a result, our pictures were amazing and truly showed the joy of the day. She was definitely worth every penny!
