We rented AACTMAD's Concourse Hall for our wedding reception this summer, mainly because they seemed very flexible, have no restrictions on vendors & give you access to the hall for the entire day.
Positives: Fairly accommodating & allow you to arrange visits to try out floorplans, etc.-you can set up the hall however you like. You can buy your own liquor & hire your own bartenders so that you save money on alcohol expenses. Tables, chairs, dinner ware, & silverware are included; you can rent linens for an additional cost. Plenty of parking & close to many hotels.
The floor is great for dancing! Pretty cool loft area upstairs. Although we did not use it, the built-in sound system seemed to work well & is a great option for those that want to self-DJ. Nice piano. Recycling & a huge fan which helps reduce waste/energy. Were reasonable when a server we hired broke something & were helpful in resolving the issue.
Neutrals: You'll have to arrange for all your own event staff & planning. You will have to hire your own servers/DJ/planner/caterer/bartenders & arrange for your own set-up, break-down, & clean-up. So renting this hall may be a bit more work.
Negatives: Service seemed to be taken care of mostly by volunteers, which isn't ideal IMO. AACTMAD requires that you do a half-hour orientation, but were a bit disorganized in scheduling & was limilimited by the volunteer's schedule. Volunteer also did not know the answer to questions about the hall & did not seem familiar with the equipment at the hall (e.g., sound system & lights). When we decided to rent the hall, we were told that the quilts hanging on the walls were permanent-not thrilled but ok with that. There was string lights hanging from the ceiling fixtures, which looked great. Later, they added sparkly butterflies & paper lanterns, which we were unhappy w/. They were inflexible about removal of butterflies, despite the fact that they never informed us of them & were not mentioned in our agreement.
