128 South, located in the historic VonKampen Building in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina, offers a charming and versatile venue with rich history. If the devil is in the details, he certainly lives here. The late 1800s building boasts a Victorian facade with ornate details, including the original stained glass windows, exposed brick walls, heart-of-pine beams, hardwood floors, and enormous bay windows.
Its two-story interior features an open floor plan with a mezzanine overlooking the central lower level, accommodating events from intimate dinners to large cocktail receptions for up to 180 guests. The venue’s allure extends outdoors with a private deck offering unparalleled views of the Lower Cape Fear River, spanning from the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge to the Isabel Holmes Bridge, and including the iconic USS North Carolina battleship. Our private deck serves as an ideal setting for sunset ceremonies, festive cocktail hours, or dancing under the stars.

We also had the opportunity to view the venue, sample the food, and ask for a preferred alcohol choice for my husband. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction.
We rented the loft at 128 for the day of the wedding. We wanted to have a place to hang out and get ready for the bride and her party nearby. We ended up having a delightful pre-wedding brunch in the spacious suite.
The wait staff and bar staff were incredibly efficient, ensuring that everyone was served quickly. They even memorized our drinks, which was a great touch.
The food was absolutely delicious! Guests from the wedding are still asking me who catered and how amazing the food was. I was sure to let them know that it was in-house catering.
If my younger daughter ever decides to get married, 128 South will definitely be a choice for us.

As for the food— We’re still getting compliments from our friends and family saying it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had. The shrimp and grits, BBQ chicken, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and green beans were all delicious. Cocktail hour bites were also fantastic, the drinks were flowing, and the portions were generous. No one was ever without a plate or a glass.
The service was flawless. The staff were thoughtful, organized, attentive, and genuinely caring. Everything ran so smoothly that if there were any hiccups, we never knew about them. The only minor issue was a couple of broken glasses on the dance floor early in the night, but the team switched everything over to plastic without missing a beat.
128 South helped make our wedding feel effortless and unforgettable. We are so deeply grateful to their entire team for giving us a day that was beautiful and truly magical. We only wish we could do it all over again. If you're considering 128 South for your wedding—do it. You will not regret it. Thank you, 128 South team, from the bottom of our hearts!

We love being a block away from 128 South Events. We often share clients with 128 South or the Bakery 105. Couples will have their ceremony and champagne toast in the Atrium courtyard. A quick walk up the street for guests gets them to Cocktail hour, dinner and dancing. It is always a pleasure working with them in the neighborhood !
