Our food at our wedding was amazing! If you love food and entertaining, then talk to beth and her husband at Morton's Fine Catering! Our wedding party was stunned and left asking where the dry chicken and bland mashed potatoes were. Beth even went and got the two of us seconds because we loved the food so much! She was so gracious and accommodating.
We were able to pick unusual menu items like butternut squash enchiladas (totally authentic flavors--we live in Arizona now), Roast pork with michigan cherry sauce (which she personalized for us) and Wild Mushroom Bread pudding (a savory stuffing). Absolutely delicious. In addition, we had some custom drinks at the bar which the bartenders developed for us. Our guests loved the drinks.
The Lakeview is not only a gorgeous setting, but also totally worth the drive for your guests. If you want a great party with fantastic food that your guests will NOT forget and actually eat (and not have to stop at McDonald's on the way home) then Morton's and The Lakeview are for you!
Corinne is great. When Lynn and my mom and I sat down and Lynn told us our budget for flowers Corinne laughed and then when she saw we were serious she buckled down and came up with AMAZING flowers. I had orchids in my bouquet on a chrysanthemum budget (Although we really did have a lot of mums in fall colors). We received many compliments
Rhonda is Amazing! I was immediately impressed with her professional tasting. She asked me ahead of time for cake and filling flavors I was interested in and had individual frosted cakes prepared for me to taste. All her flavors are delicious but she also has unusual/unique flavors like butter pecan with caramel filling and spice cake with french apple filling that fit perfectly with our fall-themed wedding. Our guests raved about the cake and smuggled it home! Two thumbs up!
Rhonda also made fall leaves and frogs out of fondant for us which was a great personal touch that people are still talking about :)
I used David's in Okemos, MI for my dress and my bridesmaids dresses.
My dress was purchased in Arizona and then shipped to MI. First, I thought I could order the dress in AZ and have it shipped to the store in MI, but they don't do that. The dress was gorgeous and luckily needed minimal alterations, but they had to redo the bustle twice, the last time was the day before the wedding! I was almost late to the rehearsal because I was waiting for them to finish my dress. They did a good job, but in retrospect I wouldn't pick a very complicated bustle. Each seamstress seemed to know what they were doing but I had a different seamstress each time which made things complicated.
My bridesmaids dresses were beautiful, the girls loved them. My only issue was that each girl had shoes dyed-to-match and each pair of shoes was a different color. My sister had them dye hers 4 times until it remotely looked like the color of the dress. This wasn't a tragedy since the dresses were long, but still disappointing. The color also rubbed off on their feet and even their hands just taking the shoes out of the box.
I agree, you get what you pay for at david's. I wouldn't say do not go there based on my experience, but know ahead of time what you'll get.
So you may notice that all my reviews are glowing...I'm pretty sure it's because of Lynn. I had to plan my wedding in Michigan from Arizona, with a 3 hour time difference and I know I could not have done it without Lynn. Here's why you need her:
1) Lynn has made E and I realize the benefit of a third party. She can prompt us to make decisions and bring up the hard decisions encountered when planning a wedding and it didn't end up being an argument. (think E: "you're really spending $900 on a photobooth?" Me "You don't want me to be happy!" sob sob)
2) Lynn really listened to what Eric and I wanted in our wedding and introduced us to QUALITY vendors who fit our vision.
3) Lynn helped us make a vision because as much as we thought we had one when we started, we didn't.
4) Confirmed with all the people so that everything we wanted actually happened.
5) she kept us going with decision making
6) I didn't have to worry what would happen if the cake didn't show or something because I knew Lynn would handle it. (This does not reflect mistrust in our actual vendors, just bridal paranoia)
7) I have to believe that our vendors went the extra mile because they wanted the repeat business from WED. I can't even imagine what could have happened if we were working with vendors for only one day--they could totally not follow through and we would have no recourse because the day was over and we would never see them again.
8) All night long my bridesmaids and guests were asking how I remembered to have snacks on the limo bus (Lynn) or How I thought of having a photobooth (Lynn) or How everything was so thoughtful and planned (Lynn, and me a little. I think I thought of some things).
Her husband Matt is great too--kept the party going. Kept the night going. I didn't have to remember when anything happened because there was Matt telling us it was time to cut the cake or time to dance or whatever event needed to happen. :)
We made our own invites from a kit we purchased at target. I have always thought that people just throw invites away so why waste the money.
Pros: cheap. we could customize them.
Cons: they take a LONG time to make. Do not delude yourself that you will finish them in an afternoon. Also, it is not easy to get your printer to print on invite-sized paper. We had to "trick" our printer into doing it by putting an 8.5x11 sheet of paper over the stack of invite papers and print them that way. It took days for us to figure that out. Overall, the invites were beautiful and we received many compliments but it was not without some trauma.
We rented the limo bus and it was great--clean, roomy, and spacious. Our driver was very flexible when we had to change locations for pictures because of weather. He had a large umbrella and helped me in and out of the bus every time. He was on time and knew where he was going too :)

Panopoulos did the hair for me, my girls, and the MOB/MOG. They did an amazing job. I had decided on some slight changes since the practice and Elena didn't mind and made my hair gorgeous. It stayed all night as did the the makeup despite dancing and getting overheated in a big huge dress. The salon let us bring Mimosas and really let us have the run of the salon. They were also very reasonably priced. My wedding party and I were very satisfied with their service.
Becky Beauchine Kulka Diamonds and Fine Jewelry Okemos, Michigan 48864
We got my engagement ring from Becky and absolutely love it. We had tried on every ring at the mall, Medawar in Frandor, and Wheat and just were not finding things that the two of us liked. We were looking for something non-traditional and really were happy with the service and selection @ BBK.
They treated this purchase seriously and we felt they respected us. We definitely appreciated that our salesperson was also a gemologist who could actually describe the difference between platinum and white gold, etc. without trying to upsell us.
My only caution is that we picked Hearts on Fire diamonds and found out when we moved to Arizona that they are not as widely available in the west. I am skeptical of having the ring serviced out here because they always want to "check the diamonds" so whenever we're back in MI seeing family we stop by BBK to have the ring serviced.
We had Weddings by Nicole provide the photobooth. The idea was great and the guests loved it, but I thought we had decided ahead of time to have black and white photos. The photos ended up looking kind of weird because the lights they were using were large ones made up of small LEDs that were red, blue, and green. They gave everyone kind of a weird coloring and people were washed out. I don't think they did a bad job, but I would definitely specify what color pictures you want ahead of time. Weddings by Nicole, Inc. responded with the the following comments: Thank you for your feedback!
We have state of the art equipment and LED lighting...we were however, having some software problems (as you were made aware of in advance). Your strips were requested to be in full color and not in black and white, as you have stated here and this request was communicated directly to Nicole from Eric (your husband). We hope you had a great time with the photo booth!
We used Pizza House on Hagadorn in East Lansing, MI for our rehearsal dinner. Most of the interaction occurred with our coordinator but we had approximately 35 people at the rehearsal. They had a lovely salad with multiple dressings, baked breadsticks, and numerous pizzas to choose from. We went with the manager's choice and had some great toppings we wouldn't have thought of like barbecue sauce with chicken and banana peppers. Amazing. They have a back room that isn't completely separate from the restaurant, but close enough. We had great service and our family and wedding party had a great time.
