What to engrave on parents gifts?

Carrie, on August 30, 2014 at 2:18 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

Hi all,

Just wondering what people are engraving on their parents gifts (for those of you who are)?

FH thinks we should engrave the parents names & the date of the wedding. My instinct was to engrave our names & the date of the wedding.

Thoughts? What are you guys doing?

Btw we got each set of parents a different wood product made by a local artist (cutting board, beer bottle caddy, salt & pepper shaker)

We did our names and the wedding date but it was picture frames so it made sense.

Maybe something like "love from {bride name} & {groom name}" and the wedding date so it's clear to random people who see it that it was a gift.

My thoughts are that it might be a bit awkward to have one of these gifts with other peoples names without some greeting

*Shameless BUMP* in case there's anyone back from the long weekend that might be able to help.

The more I think about this the more confused I get lol. Google doesn't seem to be helping much.

    I'm now leaning toward either:

    1. Parents names and date of wedding

    or

    2. Date of wedding

    or

    3. "Love from {bride name} & {groom name}" and the wedding date, as Starlight suggested

TIA for any help or opinions!

"All that we are and all that we can hope to be we owe to our loving parents"

I plan on getting each set of parents a silver 8 x 10 frame with our names and wedding date engraved on it and giving them the option of a photo of their choice.

Personally, I am not a fan of doing the parent's name with our wedding date on it as it just seems off to me. I like things clean and simple and don't want the frame cluttered, but as I reread your post and saw that you are giving them a wood carving (do you have a photo of it, as it may help).

Oh that's a good idea. Maybe just a nice sentiment and forget any names and dates.

Here are some photos of their products (they didn't have a photo of the beer caddy on their website so this is someone else's design but gives you an idea).

We have 3 sets of parents, so we'll be giving a different item to each set of parents.

Here's an example of what their engraving looks like.

What about Mother/Father of the Bride/Groom? I know my mom loves it when people call her that Smiley smile

If only names, it should be the bride and groom - not the parents. If you're putting the parents names on it, then it should be the family name, and no date - i.e., more like a monogram. Keep in mind that your parents are not going to forget when/why they received the item - a small saying with your initials would be just as nice, and equally memorable.
