What kind of beer & wine should I serve?

Kim, on April 18, 2014 at 12:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 45

Help me choose! I was thinking 3 types of beer, 3 types of wine and a signature drink.

For beer;

- Blue Moon

-Miller Lite

- ?

For wine:

- Barefoot Sweet Red

- Barefoot Moscato

- ? (I'm thinking a less sweet, more dry wine)

Signature drink

- Italian wedding cake

I would do a Sauvignon Blanc too (preferably one from New Zealand as they tend to be crisper). And I'm at a loss for beer. Maybe Heineken?

Please have a Chardonnay. Many people don't like moscato because it's so sweet. I went to a wedding last weekend and that was the only white wine choice - so I had no wine.

What about Pinot Grigio for anther white? I'm no help with red wine, though, because I don't drink it.

    Edited for spelling.

Sam Adams and chardonnay/Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi (that's some of what we're having)

I'm at a loss for wine, but for beer I would say maybe Bud Light or something dark? Depends on your guests.

Miller is a lighter beer, Blue moon is kinda medium so maybe something heavier like a Sam adams?

Both the Moscato and "sweet red" are well...sweet wines, Maybe a white or a more dry red like a merlot.

But agree only you know your guest and what they will drink Smiley smile

If you're already serving Miller Light, I wouldn't serve something else similiar to it (and not just because Bud Light is terrible.) If it's in your budget, I would probably do an IPA of some kind.

Yeah I'm trying to think of something a bit darker for beer. Sam Adams is too expensive. It's like 9 bucks for a six pack. I forgot to mention we're supplying pur own alcohol.

We had a keg of Shiner ($150) and a keg of an IPA.

Are you only looking at bottles? Is a keg an option? Do you have an actual bartender and are just supplying the liqour?

If Sam Adams is too expensive, I would do just those two beers and maybe Mike's Hard as a 3rd choice.

Do you think the drink menu is all too sweet?

You have a light beer and a wheat beer, you will want to add something a little darker too to round it out. Same idea with the wine, get one red one white and one blush so there is something for everyone Smiley smile

We do have a bartender. I was thinking getting a keg, but we can return any unopened bottles.

Tisdale! If you have a Giant Food grocery store, it is the best cheap wine (better than Barefoot in my opinion). I would also suggest picking only 1 sweet wine. The majority of wine drinkers dislike the sweet stuff. Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot (and a blush/sweet red) would be happy mediums. None of them are too dry, and I think most would be happy with those options
