What is the average cost for a dj? How much are you paying?

AnticipatingAugust2011, on January 24, 2011 at 12:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 37

I have seen some very low ball dj's and some very high end dj's. I think the best price I was quoted was $795 to include $50 out of county travel fees plus Organized schedule of Events; Music Search through his website with over 8 million songs; Pandora internet radio station is created a week before so you can get a feel of what will be played; 5 hours with Deluxe Sound w/Powered Sub Woofer, Deluxe Lighting w/12- Up Lights. Does that sound pretty good?

You can find cheap DJ's on Craigslist for like $300, but you get what you pay for and a DJ can really make or break the party.

I am paying $800 for mine... $1200 for DJ and Lighting.

We are paying $1,000 (but that's due to the fact that he's friends with FH).

Ours is only 400, 5 hours, set up clean up, no charge for extra hour; dics of songs played, MC-ing..ur quote sounds reasonable. Ours is cheap because he does it on the side but does have a business at it and I know people who have seen him in action; and during our interview he seemed very knowledgeable about the flow of the reception and unlike maybe some more expensive full timers, he doesn't have cheesy announcements and plug his name everywhere (not that they all do that of course!!) otherwise I would have gone more upscale :-)

I am paying around $250 for three hours of reception music and 2 hours set up and break down. This is about half of what the DJ usually charges and we were able to get the discount because he is a preferred vendor with our location and he does special packages for them.

$900 including lighting - it was the one thing we booked and didn't think was an astronomical price!

The prices in the Vermont area started at $1500. That did not include a travel fee because apparently, my venue is located in Bum F..K Egypt.

A dear friend is a professional DJ here in the Philly area. He offered to do our wedding gratis. However, we are paying for their room for 3 nights, and we will give him some cash. For us, the comfort of having someone who knows our musical tastes is important.

Ours is $1395. It covers 5 hours with no lighting since our reception is early in the day. I was willing to pay more for this DJ because he did my best friends wedding and did a fantastic job. My best friend hired him because she went to 2 weddings he worked and loved him each time.

In the DC area for a professional DJ (as in this is what they do for a living, not a side hustle) the cheapest I've seen is $850 ish and that was for 4 hours. Of course that easily goes up to 1500 plus if you want more time, multiple locations, lighting, etc. I think the DJ is waay too important to skimp on because with a bad DJ, they whole reception is a bust. Meaning all that money you spent on food and decor will be wasted because people will be leaving as soon as they finish eating. We're budgeting $1000 for a DJ, even though it pains me to pay someone that much lol.

Im in the DC area too and Im paying 500. For 5hrs. The DJ was referred to me by a friend. He plays mostly at clubs. The 500 is just for D jaying and MC services. Basically I know what my family and friends would want to dance too and I'm confident that this DJ can deliver.

Ours is in Memphis, TN and with a small light show it is 1200. He is licensed and insured and gave us several recommendations. We are comfortable with our choice. Two other Djs quoted us much lower prices, but they were not insured and one did not even show up to the appointment!

I'm paying $900 for our DJ. Usually its $1200 for the smallest package but I talked them out of that since our wedding is on a sunday especially.

Always a good idea to see them work before you book them.. They can make the evening really work well.. or fall flat! xx

My DJ is just a friend of the family. He has the whole dj set up and usually does parties and stuff around town! He will play all the top hits and anything I ask for! I don't even know what he's charging us, because like I said, he's a friend of the family! I didn't look into any professional dj services so I don't even know what the average cost may be!

Thanks ladies! I actually read all the reviews from this site on the dj (Orlando's Got Talent) so I may actually go with him. I am going to trust my fellow brides. I hope to be able to go check him out (hopefully without crashing someone's wedding)
