5. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" — Bonnie Tyler

Why to Skip It: This song is worth skipping if only to avoid any guest from reenacting the profanity-laced rendition made famous from Will Ferrell's wedding in Old School.

6. "Macarena" — Los Del Rio

Why to Skip It: You may know how to do the dance — but do you really want to? Besides, everyone has a few certain relatives they'd rather not see get down with that hip swivel move.

7. "My Heart Will Go On" — Celine Dion

Why to Skip It: We're not passing judgment on Celine Dion, but Titanic propelled this song into the realm of romance cliche. Besides, remember that Leo died in the movie — a bit tragic for a wedding.

8. "Mony Mony" — Billy Idol

Why to Skip It: Not sure what Billy Idol is singing in this song? Most other people don't know, either, and when that's the case, a good 10 percent of sing-alongers will find a way to say something objectionable.

Yeah..some of those songs are pretty annoying..But thus being said, They will only be played at our reception if they are requested, or if the DJ thinks it'll get the crowd out there..I will however have quite a few kids there and I am DREADING the Barbie Girl requests... YIKES!

Great list. Speaking from my experience when I got married 12 years ago, you need to be VERY clear with your DJ or band leader. We thought we were fine because we gave a list of songs to play and told the booking person we didn't want any of the "cheesy" songs. My mother-in-law who knew of our decision, FORCED the band to play the chicken dance and the electric slide. My wife and I were both upset but we didn't fault the band. We did however have a talk with my wife's mother about how disappointed we were since she KNEW we didn't want those songs.

In the end, we had them cut from the final video, so it's all just a faded memory. The moral of the story, make sure everyone is on the same page as to what NOT to play. This is a good list to skip... but hey, if you want to bring the cheese, sometimes that's fun too.

Why skip it: they are actually breaking up in the song... not a good tone for a wedding. i actually seen a bride walk down the isle to that... then Whitney starts saying "i know im not what you need" i was cracking up laughing!

I say it really depends on the crowd! If you have a crowd of "older" guests that were into The BeeGees and Stayin Alive, it's going to get them out onto the dance floor, because THEY know all the words and all the moves to this song!

I agree with making sure EVERYBODY is on the same page as to what to play. If your DJ is going to take requests, make sure you let them know what is and is not appropriate. We ALWAYS make sure to know if they want the "cheesy" music played. That way, if it's requested, we know if it's ok or not.

I'm definitely someone who won't allow these songs played at my wedding! I'm a bit torn about my Grandma though...she takes line dancing classes and I know she'll want to request a corny line dancing song. She's over 80, I have to let her do it, right? I guess one song won't hurt me. I'd rather the electric slide than the macarena though. ick.

Aaw, Lauren, you HAVE to give your 80 yr GMa that one dance...it won't hurt anyone and I bet people will be so happy to see her gettin' her groove on!

I've always been advised not to play Beauty and the Beast or The Lady is a Tramp... and I agree that "I will Always Love You" is totally inappropriate despite the title. It's always a good idea to read the lyrics. For instance, Andrea Bocelli's "Con Te Partiro" is not really about saying good-bye - at least not to each other. It would be much better and more literally translated to "I will Go with You" For a long time, I avoided this lovely tune and sentiment because of the English title "Time to Say Good-Bye"

Line dancing gets the party started! because people who cant dance can USUALLY keep up with line dancing... those are a must at my party! such as electric slide and a few more "cool" ones...lol

#10 I just wanna get married- Jagged Edge- why? the song is basically saying we have been together for so long "we might as well do it". Thats a lame reason for getting married and I have heard it as the first dance at so many weddings...its ridiculous...great list.

"God Bless the Broken Road" - yeah, it's a love song, but it's a love song about your exes. I don't want to be thinking about my exes on my wedding day. Seriously, I used to listen to it after break-ups (I had a steady on-again-off-again before FH, so there were lots of break ups) and think about how my exes were somehow going to lead me to The One. Don't want to be reminded of that.

We had the mocarana but only cuz the adorable flower girl requested it... cha cha slide, electric slide, cupid shuffle, and copperhead road were all loved at my reception =)

AWWW man i really like the Broken Road song... its funny cus i JUST told my FH about the song because i heard it on the Disney channel...

and the Cha Cha, Booty Call, I think Chicago shuffle or Detroit shuffle something like that, and the electric slide, and a jungle slide... those keep the party going all night long!!!
