RSVP Card Question

S.M., on October 7, 2012 at 1:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

I have a goofy question... When sending invitations, how many RSVP cards do you include? I was planning on including just one, but then got to thinking... How will everyone list their meal option, since we are doing plated meals?

We have some invitations that will be going to families of 4-5 people. How do we know which person gets which meal?

I imagine our cards will look similar to this, so I have no idea what to do... Though if we skip the M_____________ and just put a blank line, we can write the name of each guest on the card directly. It could cut down on uninvited guests.

What did you do? How did you handle things? We are going to have an option for online RSVP, but I know that some of our guests won't be taking advantage of that.

Usually there is a line that will say initial choice of entree. (pic 1)

or list it so each guests write's their name and check which meal (pic 2)

You don't know exactly who gets what...you just know the party will get 1 of this and maybe 1 of that. The couple can switch if it's backwards. We're not worrying about it... Smiley smile. Other ideas that came up here is a small colored crystal on the seating cards to indicate meals..but that means you need a seating card/escort card for EACH guest. We're just doing one for a couple. A few things to kick around Smiley smile

They just put a number in the slot for the meal and when they're seated, their server determines who has what exactly according to the escort card (if their is one) or by asking him. No big deal.

It all sounds so simple, right?

Ours are below, and I still had people that

    1. Didn't fill in their name (number the back of them so you know whose it is)

    2. Didn't notice that the number of people was already filled in, and asked for more guests

    OR

    3. Crossed out the number I put in there and put their own number in there.

    4. Put both names on the RSVP, but only check marked instead of initialed their menu selection.

Sometimes you just can't win, be ready to make lots of phone calls and/or send lots of emails to clear things up.

I gave up and just figured that if they got the wrong thing (those that only put a check) would switch with the other person Smiley smile

I ordered my RSVP cards from Vistaprint and realized this issue only AFTER I got them!! I ordered new ones and put:

    Name(s) ________ Entree: ______

    ________ Entree: ______

Please indicate your choice of entree for each guest: Chicken, Salmon, Vegetarian Pasta, or Children's Meal.

Everyone did it correctly so far!

Ours look similar to your picture posted....we are only including one RSVP card per invitation. We are also numbering the back and had a children's option as well. Our venue is cook to order so they will go around and ask each guest what they ordered. So, luckily for us, we just need to tell them what is RSVP'd to us. They automatically make extra for any mishaps (change of choice, extra people, etc.) I would ask your venue if they do the same! Smiley smile Good luck and Congratulations!
