Has anyone ever heard of this before? My cousin just sent out save the date emails for her upcoming September wedding.Well the details stated that the wedding is on 9/6/09 but the reception is 9/5/09.I asked was this a typo and was told no.First of all I have never heard of having a reception before the wedding and on top of it we have to pay to eat at the reception plus it says that they would like cash gifts .The gift part I have no problem with because I always believe in taking a gift to events that I feel require one.But how are you having a reception that your guest have to pay to eat at and then to tell them that you want monetary gifts.I feel as though we(her guests) are actually giving them a reception. Now set me straight if this is a new trend that I dont know about.

Well the cost of the meal was like $25.00 for adults and like $18.00 for kids.As far as her reasoning behind having this reception on a certain date due to family members being availiable at that time I dont think so.Because her maternal grandparents are deceased as well as her mother not sure about her dads side but as far I know their not even close. As far as she goes I know she has a decent job and makes pretty good money.I'm not quite sure about her FH.

WOW! I wouldnt go just on principal alone!! LOL

You NEVER ask for cash! You NEVER invite guests and ask them to pay. If you cant afford a wedding and reception you ELOPE! or hit the Courthouse.

If they really wanted to save they would get married at the reception location and do the party after as a Cake and Punch event.

    Tacky , Tacky, Tacky!

HA! that was a good question....I would not put it past her to be skimming off the top of it. The meals probably only cost her $20 per adult and she's keeping $5! At this point nothing would surprise me with this person! So Vernice, are you going?

Well to answer your question Laura and be totally honest.I would only be going to satisfy my curiousty, which is wrong. But when I hear crazy things like my inquiring mind wants to see them to try and figure out why or what the reasoning was behind it.

Ha! I would go to satisfy my own curiosity too! We're just crazy like that, I guess!

I would give the $25 for my plate, then get them a really cool gift like Boggle for them (it's fun with words!).

Hello everyone , I'm getting married october 3 in Vegas and because both me and my fiance were married before we decided to have a very small wedding with four close friends and we were'nt going to have a reception but somehow we got talked into it so therefore we have planned to host our reception the day before we leave off to Vegas, now I don't think it's bad luck it's just that I wanted to do something different and plus the wedding song we chosed is perfect (when the reception is over I want the song were going to the chapel and were gonna get married to play) but believe me when I say that this is really going to be a sophisticated event I'm very excited about it any feed back
