Perm before wedding

Cheryl, on September 24, 2012 at 12:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I am wanting to get a perm before the wedding, but not sure how much time I should allow for it to relax in time for the wedding. Any suggestions?

What is your normal hair like? I was going to go for a perm(I have natural aro-kinky hair) but I decided to just straighten it and it came out as good as a perm. So i straightened mine like 3 days before the wedding. But i remember, when i used to perm my hair, I would say 1 week before would be ideal...

Are you talking about a curly perm or a straightening perm?

Is there a reason you are wanting to perm your hair before your wedding? Perms have come a long way but in mho they still do not give a very pretty curl. However, a perm will usually relax in about 10 days or so. It really is different for everyone. So much depends on hair texture, length, thickness, rod size and type. Whether or not you have other chemical alterations done to your hair and even vitamins and medication can also have some effect on the outcome. I would discuss this with your hairdresser since they know more about your hair and get their opinion as well.

    Yup, with amy B here.

Dont risk it. I got a haircut before my wedding and the lady did a horrible job. thankfully, it didn't matter.

I have natually wavy hair and its long I permed mine 3 mos before my wedding just to even out the curl and to hold the curl better. Right now its perfect 24 days before Im glad I didnt do it sooner though it took awhile to be the way I wanted it. I plan on curling my hair with soft curls and knew with the length it would fall out so hopefully the perm will hold it in for the whole evening.

Cindi S., I see we are neighbors. lol. Thanks for the great information, mine can have a bit of natural wave when it is shorter, but the longer it gets the straighter it gets. Part of why I am thinking a perm because my hair won't hold a curl without lots of hairspray. And I will be having to have my hair and makeup done several hours before the ceremony.

Thanks to all for your input, I appreciate all input.

That is exactly why we went with them is because they will do the catering, no-host bar, etc. All I have to worry about is picking the food, my cake and being there. lol.

Yes that would be great but we have a personal friend that is a caterer and really wanted him to do it. It was hard finding a place to alow our own caterer but we found a perfect place for us in Maple Valley really didnt want to go that far but just couldnt find anything in Auburn-Federal Way area.

Cindi, thank you and that is good to know. I think I am going to do it a couple months before the ceremony. I will look you up on here. I see your date is coming real soon, cogratulations and best wishes.

And I hear ya about finding a place in this area, as I also didn't want to be too far from home as we have lots of out of town family coming in and needed to make it easy on everybody.

Cindi, so what would be wrong with getting one now to see if I would even like it? About how long before you can redo a perm? The wedding is still 6 1/2 months away..... just bouncing ideas around in my head... Know anyone that does makeup also?

Well it depends on the length of your hair and how tight you go? Generally most spiral perms done on med.to longer hair will last 6-9 mos maybe longer it all depend on your hair. No don't know anyone who does makeup I'm doing my own i have never really liked when others have done my makeup so thought I would just do my own...
